Default Sega CD model 1 issue. Easy fix?

Ok so I'm not very tech savvy, but I'll try to explain what the issue is. The system powers on, I can see the start up screen, no problem. The disk tray will eject with no problem as well. What I'm getting is that the disk won't read, and I'm hearing a loud buzzing sound. Its almost as if the gears that spin the disk are out of whack, and are grinding against each other, or maybe the teeth on the gears are worn (if it even is gears that spin the disk), or possibly the mechanism that moves the laser lens isn't working either. I know the buzzing sound isn't a cd getting chewed up, because it makes the sound each time the disk tray in closed whether there is a cd or not in the tray. Anything I can try or look at? is it a possible DIY fix? or a common problem with model 1 Sega CD systems?

Have you asked over at Sega 16? I'm sure someone over there will know what's up.
