Default Sega Club Digital TV Receiver

Anyone know anything about this device or if it is worth anything to a Sega collector? I passed on it today at Goodwill for $10. It is from 'AlphaStar', and best I can tell has very little to do with Sega in any functional way.

It looks like a generic AV box that wouldn't do anything without being subscribed to some kind of delivery service. I suspect the Sega name is just incidental here, probably unrelated to our favorite game company.

This is what I've found on Sega Club: http://segaretro.org/Sega_Club

So it seems like it was part of that Sega initiative somehow, but you are right that it was a content delivery system that didn't last long and the hardware is useless now.

hah, there is an old DP topic with the same title as mine: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/show...al-TV-reciever

For $10 I'd have bought it just for the Sega branding on it, but I am a Sega nut.

I agree 100%, go back there and buy it! It may be worth little more than that, but it's got a box in nice shape. There will be SEGA nuts out there interested. If not, it only cost you $10.

Get it. It's totally worth the $10.
Real collectors drive Hondas, Toyotas, Chevys, Fords, etc... not Rolls Royces.

Alright, you've all convinced me to head back and see if it is still there tomorrow.

Went back over the weekend, but it wasn't there. Not terribly surprised. Hopefully a collector that wants it got it.

Oh well, even if it's worse money (I doubt it), not really a big piece of game history.
