Previously, R-Type Dimensions had been exclusive to Xbox 360 XBLA since 2009, it's been 5 years now. Already on on PS3 PSN in Japan, R-Type Dimensions is finally coming to the west.

The great thing about R-Type Dimensions is, you can play both R-Type and R-Type II, as they were in 1987 & 1989 respectively with their original arcade 16-Bit sprite graphics, or with the remade 3D/HD graphics, and, switch between old & new graphics on the fly as you're playing. 2 player co-op as well as online play.

You can also switch the camera to a more angled view with the remade graphics, something I found pretty darn kewl.

While Dimensions wasn't the most amazing XBLA release during the middle of 360's life, it certainly was one of the more solid digital-only games of that time.

The remade graphics were pretty nice compared to countless other budget games with extremely cheap-looking visuals. Too many games look like were made with Macromedia Flash.
I enjoyed the remakes more than R-Type Final on PS2, though I'd say Delta on PS1 was still the best 3D R-Type.

When played in original 2D, the Dimensions ports were more accurate (the screen res.) than those of the R-Types compilation originally made for PS1.

Dimensions on PS3 also has enhanced audio (perhaps remixed?) over the XBLA release.
