I just got this game in the mail and it says online only, is this the only way to play?

    Yeah!

The campaign is pretty much played with other players (opposing factions) online. It would have been nice to have some sort of regular campaign.

I didn't look into the game but kept hearing how great it was so I bought it. I haven't had a chance to play it yet but until I saw this tread I didn't realize it was online only. If I would have known that I wouldn't have purchased it because at some point they'll shut down the servers and the game will be worth absolutely nothing.

Oh there's always some sort of third party server creation once the original servers go down. I hear someone is getting Wii servers ready due to Nintendo pulling the plug on many of those.

I'm a collector, but only to a certain extent.
Not as extreme as Rickstilwell though.[/quote]

True and I am pretty sure there are even Dreamcast servers up for some games like Phantasy Star Online - but it's been a while since I've checked on that.

    Titanfall is pretty cool.

I doubt this will happen. Since it runs off of Xbox Live. It's not like Dreamcast where they didn't had a service to log into. Unless someone can crack the live encryption and what ever else they use for you to log in. Once Microsoft shuts down the servers in a year or two. Online only games will become coasters.

Why would they come out with an online-only game for the 360 this close to pulling the plug on the system?

Are they even going to end the servers tho? Cuz my friend has the Xbone and can still message me on my 360. So I wonder if they're all the same servers?

Xbox 360 has lots of life left in it. And yes, the 360 infrastructure is the same as the XB1 infrastructure.

Folks aren't talking about Xbox Live going away here, they're talking about this game's dedicated servers being taken offline. Xbox Live support for the 360 could easily last under decade. There appears to be a good 2-3 years left in this system, likely another 2-3 years afterwards before it finally all but disappears from store shelves, and probably another good 5 years as they support and earn a lot of revenue from the thousands still utilizing the service primarily for its Xbox 360 capabilities.

They're not going to be cutting off the 360 for many years to come.
