Ive always been partial to the original dual shock controller on PS1 and the PS2 dual shock with the analog buttons. They just feel right to me, and the build quality is good to.
Just experiment. Lots of controllers have something unique about them.
I recently heard about a controller called the Performance Dual Impact which looks awesome and sounds great, and includes a neGcon compatibility mode for racing games released before Sony's own dual analog (the neGcon itself is a controller I've heard a lot about).
But really it depends on the games. Most games I find play just right with stock controllers. Fighting games require an arcade stick if you want to be more than just a casual fan. Racing games might play fine with stock if they support dual-analog and I've heard of something called the neGcon for the ones that don't.
Or you can develop psychic abilities and control games directly with your mind.
Even with my large hands, I prefer the feel of the Dualshock. The motors add extra weight that makes it feel more solid, and the convex analog sticks with textured rubber grips just seem to respond better. The vibrationless dual analog controller feels like a cheap toy in comparison. I only keep mine around for collection purposes.

Dual Analog is perfect for people with ape sized hands, like myself.
Whaddya mean invalid parameters?!
9,000 gigs of ram and it still can't answer a simple question!
I also highly recommend the Docs Enhanced controller.
I made an episode of the Controller Chronicles on it.

I love the Sony Dualshocks. It seems no 3rd party company that I've used has ever made a controller as good as the classic Sony design. It's maybe the best-designed controller ever, imo.
