Default It Came From The Desert getting a limited edition Genesis cart release

    http://www.indieretronews.com/2014/0...nemawares.html

The game was available from Cinemaware's site as a free download for years, but the site seems to be half-broken now so the download is down.

Can't help but have flashbacks from the TG-16 CD release. Not good flash backs. Amazing how you can make three completely different games from one no-name property.

I remember reading about games like It Came from the Desert in magazines like GamePro and VG & CE back in that time period. I would see all the pictures and everything, and because it was on a CD, I just assumed it would have to be an amazing game. I ended up owning a Turbo CD many years later for a brief period, and I tried out It Came from the Desert, and I came to the realization that I had unrealistic hopes in the game in the first place. Obviously CD doesn't just automatically make games better. However back in 1990, whenever this game was on store shelves, just because it was like 1 of only a handful of CD games, I just expected it to be this totally awesome adventure.

Not even close to the same game, or even same type. The Amiga game has some first-person static shooting and driving scenes, and lots of animated cut scenes. The TG-16 has some very very bad live action video with what amounts to mini games, one where you move a cross-hairs to shoot ants attacking someone too stupid to get up from laying on the ground (So of course, shooting the ants next to said prone person is the best way to kill ants), and some of the worst side-scrolling levels ever. The gens one looks like a real game, an overhead shooter. As a TG-16 fanboy I can say that the TG-16 version is far below the other two. I'd say it's near the bottom of the TG-16 game list.

Yes. And this is for the people who'd like an official cart release. :P

I wish there was more of that stuff. Companies either re-releasing old games, or releasing the ones that were unreleased back in the day.

    Interesting, I signed up.

It says at the bottom of the page it is being done in conjunction with WaterMelon (of Pier Solar fame), so they must be using the same factories as them to produce the carts and clamshells. That means new parts!

This isn't just a repro or simple physical release. Cinemaware and Watermelon are reportedly trying to do bug fixes and add stuff to make the game what it should have been. If all goes well, it might turn out to be a different game in many respects.
