    Default Neo Geo CD questions.

How common is it for games to have both the English language and Japanese language versions on the game? Like the fighting games I have all have the option to change the language of the text to English.

Also the Neo Geo CD I have is a Japanese one, is there anyway I can change the Bios so that it has English instead of Japanese in the menus?

My final question is, is the Japanese version of Crossed Swords playable to someone who doesn't understand Japanese?

I don't know which games have an English/Japanese switch in-game, but I think they are very few.

If you want English, you'll have to mod your system internally by affixing a switch to the jumpers that are available -- a very easy mod once you open up the system. Google for it.

Crossed Swords has very little language in-game and none of it is vital to gameplay besides perhaps weapons information.

Everything the above poster said, but yes - there's no universal in game option for language. If you do the simple mod mentioned, all import games would read in English by default, except for about 8 Japanese exclusives (which would be Samurai SHodown RPG, a Quiz game, and a whole lot of mahjong.).

Got Crossed Swords today. It is playable though can't understand the story cause it's in Japanese. Though the game is brutally difficult.

No, it's all timing, like Punch-Out!! Once you realize that there are times when you should wait and NOT attack, it gets easier. Unfortunately, the window for attacking gets shorter and shorter.

Yeah I figured that much out, whats giving me so much trouble is I cant see any lead up from the enemies to which way they are going to to attack so I can't tell which way to block before its too late.
