Default Do you play ps1 on a crt tv?

I get a weird feeling ps1 is a exception to some gamers because ps1 games have been ported(emulated) to psp, vita , ps3 and you can also play your physical ps1 games on ps2 and ps3. Do you try to keep ps1 titles on a crt? Or do you just dont care and play them via ps2 and ps3 through some hd cables?

I mostly play on a SD Sony Trinitron from my PSOne via S-Video. 2D games though see a fair bit of use on my HDTV played on my PS3 (Not so much the 3D games). And I'll occasionally play a game on my PS2 connected via component to my Trinitron.

I'd probably unhook my PSOne and play exclusively on my slim PS2 when playing on my CRT, but my 1st party memory cards aren't recognized by it for some odd reason. 1st party PS2 memory cards work just fine, however. Never figured that one out...

I play my PS1 games on a CRT. Same with my PS2 games, Gamecube games, etc.

I stick with my CRT. I think it looks a whole lot better than a HD TV.

I switch back and forth. I just play anything on whatever TV I feel like using at the moment. I've been lucky to avoid models that introduce lag.

Well if I'm using the original hardware just like the N64 and Saturn it's a bad idea to play them on LCD/LED type TVs so yeah I would use a CRT (or at least a psone+screen combo sony made since it was calibrated for it.) Some games, best one I can give though is N64, will fail to even be playable on something other than a CRT and that would be Rogue Squadron. In that game on the menu the high quality screen cap pics get scrambled because of the lack of scanlines. In game it uses a trick of the CRT for light and shadow, because it's not there, night game stages are just pitch black so you run into buildings and canyon walls with the only possible tells being white spots (building windows) being maybe present since the lighting and shadow isn't present. I remember seeing this failure on some PS1 game before, wish I could remember what, and various others were just very much darker than they should be as well masking some things.

Great topic, it gives me a chance to ask about the EMS Top Gun 3 wireless light gun. Does anyone have any experience with this light gun? The reviews have been really mixed and it's a bit pricey. I'd really like to know because their advertising it as compatible with all displays and monitors.

Right now I play Time Crisis for the PS1 with my beloved Namco GunCon on my crt.

Wow if that thing is legit that's a welcome sign to finally see, a lightgun that'll work on something other than a CRT and wirelessly too. The Wii waggle remote never did aim quite right as it played around a bit with how it picked up the IR bar.

Agreed. It says it even woks with MAME. I'd like to have it for Time Crisis & Lethal Enforcers. But the ratings make it a total crapshoot. Aesthetically, I still perfer the Namco Guncom but the Beretta style EMS Top Gun 3 looks really good too.

With dark games like Goldeneye and such I just turn the brightness on the TV way up to see in the dark.

That usually works, but DOOM on 64 was fouled up by Midway so bad, even max brightness and fiddling with contrast didn't help which is a shame as it's unique (which many didn't realize thinking it was a port) and it's fantastic.

Yeah, that always pissed me off a bit about Doom 64. It would just get so damn dark in that game at times that you just couldn't see what the heck was going on.

I play on a sony bvm via rgb scart but I'm thinking of either just playing them upscaled on a ps3 on my lcd or outputting the isos through my psp go using component cables in 480p and buying an xrgb-3 and upscaling like that.

Games look great on an rgb monitor especially the bvm, but it's becoming impractical,if the xrgb can give me comparable quality to the bvm it may be time to move on.

Once my move is done, my PSX will be hooked from scart to component into a component CRT. The Neo Geo and the PSX look amazing on it.

The only systems right now that are hooked up to a true HDTV are Wii and newer. My PS2 is using the component in on my old CRT, one of those "flat screen" CRTs. My OG Xbox, GameCube, and Dramcast are there, as well as all my true classic cart systems.
