Default Anyone have info on this odd Vic20 game cartridge?

I recently came across an odd looking copy of Gorf for the Vic20 and was wondering if anyone knew anything more about it. I managed to find another one on ebay that looks exactly like it with the same type of label.

I don't think it's a prototype or a review copy, but I really don't know what it is so I'm hoping someone here has more knowledge about it. It's not a unique item as I found another one just like it online, so I'm not sure what to think of it.

It's an early copy of Gorf. They rushed some copies of this and other titles to market with those el-cheapo labels so they would have some product on the shelves when the system was launched. The ROM is no different than later versions. I've heard an unsubstantiated rumor that at least some of these were in-house prototypes sold to the public while waiting for regular product to become available. You could always try opening it up and checking the chips.

Thanks for the info, now knowing that it's an early version I did a search and found a thread on another forum describing these carts. I never heard of these before.

Mine is a socketed EPROM for what it's worth.

Early or late? I've always taken them to be late productions, because most of the ones I've seen have been high serial number Commodore publishings. If the later games didn't come in that style, I'd think more early releases.

A lot of Commodore stuff seems to be EPROMs, I've got at least 3-4 carts for the C-64 with them. And only 1 had tape on the window.
