Default Kid Dracula (Japan) playable for English speakers?

The US Gameboy version tends to sell for $40+ on ebay. So i'm wondering if I get the cheaper Japanese version will I have any trouble getting through the game since I don't understand Japanes?

Nah, there's a bit of text in between levels and you might struggle understanding the mini games at first. The power ups are in Japanese so that might be bothersome when switching between them but you can pause the game and select them that way. Nothing that will stop you from getting through the game though. It's quite an easy game and can be beaten in less then 45 minutes. A fun little diversion with crisp controls and some nice level design.

The Famicom version? One boss fight is replaced with a quiz game, but I'm sure you can just look up the answer online for that part.

Game Boy? No, I don't think any reading is required to beat that.

The above post is correct. I owned Kid Dracula 3x for the GB, twice in the 00s and once in the mid 90s originally, and it's 100% playable without loss. The Famicom game has a quiz show, that one you're screwed on without using a FAQ or finding a bootleg maker (retrozone old stock on ebay for too much $ or someone else) who patches it into english which is what I have now. They're more or less the same game, Famicom is a hair nicer, but it's not a loss. The 'translated' famicom is called "I'm Kid Dracula"
