Default JVC X'Eye problems. Out of ideas and desperately need help.

Hello, I recently got an X'eye knowing that the CD part was messed up. I do drive repairs all the time so that didn't faze me at all when I was told so.

So I order the Optima-6s and put it in the system. CDs spin, but it won't play any Sega CD games. it goes to the music screen with no option to do anything but go into the options menu. I tried a music cd, and the X'eye recognizes it, but no sound plays.

I have it hooked up RCA, and the Genesis side is perfect. When I go to put in a CD game the bios music sounds, I put in a game and the drive makes the clicking sound like it is trying to access it. Then it doesn't. Doesn't even give me an option to play the music on the disc. Like I said, I tried a music cd and it plays the tracks but there is no sound output at all.

I desoldered the anti-static blob, the ribbon cable is attached and I am definitely not getting the Door Open problem that others have. It is a Genesis MK-2 (MK-2103) power supply, so I don't think that is the issue either.

I would truly appreciate any help as I've wanted an X'eye for 20 years now, and finally got one...but I want a complete unit, otherwise I could have just kept my model 2 Genesis.

Needs adjustment (more than just the POT on the laser itself). You can't just drop a new laser in and expect it to work.

X'EYEs aren't worth your time as an owner. As a collector if you want it to sit on a shelf unused they're great. As someone who has repaired several they're a PITA.
I fix things. You name it, I'll work on it. Want something modded? Recapped?

It is the issue, the Genesis 2 AC adapter doesn't supply enough current for the X'Eye to run CDs. If you have a PSOne or PS2 slim PSU, those will work just fine on the X'Eye.

Any Sega power supply is "incorrect", it has to be labeled JVC. Sega never released a console named X'eye.

Actually if you can get a power supply from a Sega CDX that is exactly the same power wise. You can also get one from time to time at http://retrogamecave.com/

Another recommendation which works perfectly (with my CDx) and also delivers the correct 9.5V is the power supply for the Asus EEE PC700/PC701! Especially since they don't get as hot as the ones for the PS One/PS2 slim.

It can't be the issue. I personally used a CDX power supply (exactly the same specs) - but before I got that I was running a model 2 AC Adapter and it was working just fine for me. I didn't run it like that for a long time - but I do know that the CD will spin with that AC Adapter (but not condoning the use of it).
