Been playing a lot of WoW lately, but thought I'd take a break to work on some of the rather large pile of PS3/PS4/PSN/VITA games I have piled up.
To that end, been working on completing LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Most LEGO games are great, but TT really shines when they have control of the Star Wars property. Once again I sort of wish they'd back off of the creative maps and just make more levels, but people love free roam these days.

Guerrilla War arcade. Hooked up the pcb and started playing it in my Time Soldiers cabinet. I like Time Soldiers better, with its 12 position rotation as opposed to Guerrilla War's 8, and Time Soldiers has a more elegantly designed power-up system, but it's a nice change of pace to take Guevara and Castro out to the killing fields. Cool graphics, and definitively more of an Ikari Warriors feel. The NES version is cool as well, but I've been learning this one, as the way grenades work and their range takes some getting a feel for it.

Also tried out Baby Jo the Superhero on PC Engine CD. Very sluggish, like a crummier Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck. Underwhelming.

Also learning Shounin Yo! on Super Famicom. It's a board game built around carrying cargo to sell at different ports to get loads of cash. Some light RPG battles now and then as well. Definitely more linear than a Momotaro Dentetsu or Hyokkori Hyoutan Jima or Monster Paradise. I'll have fun with it one day with my brother.

I've been playing Sins of a Solar Empire on the PC. The game requirements are a 2.2 Ghz Core2Duo, but it was a bit too much for my old Q9650 rig. I've been playing it on my 4790K rig, because there was too much slowdown on the older setup.

Keeping to the self imposed rules of my blog, I am sticking to my console of the month - Genesis. This week I'm playing Castlevania Bloodlines and next week I'll be firing up some Shinobi 3.

Been playing a ton of Pinball Arcade on the Vita. Its weird, I've never really enjoyed Pinball games (or pinball mini games in games) before but this game has really clicked with me. Maybe because it takes real tables? All I know is I really enjoy going after each challenge on each table and have managed to clear quite a few Wizard challenges now. Its one of the few games where I'll actually pick up DLC, since each DLC pack gives me more pinball tables to play on. I can see this being a regular fixture on my Vita for months to come.

I've also been playing through several more Capcom games, the latest two games being Mega Man 1 (NES) and F1 Dream (PC Engine/Arcade). I managed to finish Mega Man while only losing 1 life (a personal best of mine!) while managing to beat all the bosses with just the default buster weapon. I reckon I could have cleared the game without dying had I used the boss weaknesses for the final boss. Well, gotta leave something for my next playthrough.
On the other end of the fun spectrum, there is F1 Dream, a terrible top down racing game with awful controls and collision detection. I really can't stand either version - the arcade version is really glitchy (I've warped through the walls out of the race courses so many times that I wonder if this was ever play tested) and the PC Engine is not really any better (course design is actually worst). Avoid this one like the plague. Thankfully next up is 1943 Kai which I know can't be worse than this game!

^^You have one of those modern Midway cocktail arcade machines? Nice buy/find?

I don't post in here but rarely, but the fact I decided to buy back some of my old DS collection as it has been a decade now got me back to it. Less then a week ago I lucked into finding Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime locally, and for a good deal no less. I forgot how FUN this game is. Shame that S-E has no cajones to bring out the other 2 of the series. I've just unlocked the slime team for my tank and have all the HP ups I can get so far on my dude and the slime tank too. it's a great mix of lots of fun to do. A little bit DQ, a little bit like Zelda, and then your 1on1 goofy but serious damage dealing/taking tank damage with saboteurs. It's fun.

After a really tough day at work (we're going through a remodel, so as the experienced one I get to do all the fun shit), I've just been shot since I got home. I played with my son, had a nice dinner, then dozed off on my basement couch. Woke up around midnight and turned on the arcade cabinets to play a credit of Black Tiger.

Thanks! It's not my best score, but a 1cc run is the norm on that one for me. I really love that game. It's tough but fair, and you don't have to memorize the levels to be able to beat it. Maybe my favorite Capcom game of all time.

After coming home from work and watching some old Popeye with my son, I cleaned up my basement from my recent water damage and rearranged my game shelving to better protect fragile cardboard. Once I finished, I watched a couple of Archer re-runs and played a credit of Magician Lord on AES. Not my best by a far sight, but I cleared three levels at least before losing my lives. That game has aged really well to me.

The NES version is way easier, for sure. I play my arcade cabinet of it more, but the NES is pretty serviceable. It feels faster than the arcade, but less frantic.
