Arrow Ultra-rare recalled NES game being sold for $40k on eBay [Eurogamer.net]

A factory-sealed copy of ultra-rare 1987 NES game Stadium Events is currently on eBay for $40,000 (£26k).
The title is considered to be the rarest officially-released game for the console due to it being recalled mere days after its initial 1987 launch.
Stadium Events was released by Bandai as a test title for its Family Fun Fitness Control Mat - an early version of the technology now found in Dance Dance Revolution floor pads.

I hope that current bid just under 100K is a joke, a very sick and amusing joke that won't be paid. I get it's hard to come by since it lost its license as Nintendo scooped it up for World Class Track Meet but that's just mentally deranged what that price is at.

The vast majority of these types of auctions always seem to end up with phony bids and no one actually sending any money. Even if I was a billionaire I would still not pay anywhere near that much for it.

Ha ha... hard to come by. Stadium Events (just the cart) is more like IMPOSSIBLE to come by.
This is a factory sealed copy.
So yeah the price is about right.

Bah the gold NWC is far far more rare since they only gave those away in NP mag and did I believe 25 of those. Even the gray NWC which due to the history on that should (it's not) be worth more probably has around 50-100 of those existence too. Neither ever were sealed, they just are what they are and that's super rare. I don't think any video game justifies a 6 figure pricing but that one should fall into that area.

Sealed Stadium Events is way rarer than either of the NWC carts.

oh guys its slabbed, that alone adds 150% to the value of the game right? we know its real and not a fake because its slabbed? right?

I hate those companies I wish they would have never gotten into the game business, they charge way to much to take a look at something for you and stick it in a little box

VGA is a straight scam propagated by those who are insecure about their purchases, but not secure enough to demand actual standards, accountability, or consistency from a grader. The non-sealed plastic box, label with pretty sticker and accompanying letter is good enough despite the mounting evidence the practices are questionable. There were plenty of discussions on that over at NA, which usually ended in a ban, did end in threats or locks unless they were only PRO-VGA threads, then it was ok, at least if enough vaseline was supplied. My favorites were the cases of people sending stuff back multiple times at separate costs because they knew a game was a 85+ gold and the 2 silver 85s before hand weren't good enough. Seriously though if you can't tell a seal is fake or not when you buy it, you shouldn't fucking bother, and it is that simple because they're not perfect and screw stuff up. A grade should be solid, and if anything should go down with age and return visits, not up.
