    Default Bard's Tale Construction Set

So I was looking thru my PC game library and I have The Ultimate RPG Archives, which among other things includes the original Bard's Tale trilogy plus the construction set.

One nice thing I noticed about it is that, unlike with other construction kits, you can play games made with it without actually owning the BTCS.

It got me curious. How big was the community for this thing way back when? Does it still have a community now, like Unlimited Adventures does? Are there any notable games created with it that you might recommend?

Just curious about the history and longevity of this thing, is all. If I feel up to it I might take a stab at creating a short, stupid little RPG.

I would play it, although I do not know the stats on the Bard's Tale community. I loved that game it was very witty and cleverly done. I play it on the xbox though. That is the only hindrance. I know me and my friends played it way back when on our xboxes, and to be honest I did not know it was on PC till just now. I may pick this up even if just to play custom games made by other gamers. I love trying out community made stories.

    Wrong Bard's Tale, dude

(Although I guess that answers all my questions about how well-remembered the construction set is)

I remember playing the BTCS on both the Amiga and the PC. If my memory serves me correctly you were even able to create your own creatures. I haven't heard of any active groups or individuals involved in a BTCS "community". Maybe you should try and get something going for the BTCS. I think once people who are into computer RPGs try it they'll end up liking it.

Have you ever played the Bards Tale on the Apple II, C64, Amiga, or the PC? If you have, how does it compare to the NES version? If not, how is the NES version? I've never played it on the NES and most of my experience with the Bards Tale was first on the C64, then the Amiga, and much later on the PC.

I remember playing the NES version on an emulator once. This was rather a long time ago, but one of the main things I recall is the city being.... simplified, and perhaps more linear. Like once you leave the tavern there's only one direction to go.

But I could be misremembering or even thinking of a different game.

So the new BardsTale 4 kickstarter comes with steam codes for BardsTale 1-3 as well as Wasteland 2. Just tossing that out there.
