    Default Opinions On Nintendo Age?

So I recently watched a Gaming Historian video about the Sharp Game Television. Never knew these things existed, now I'm intrigued, and would like to do some research in obtaining one. The Sharp C1 looks even more impressive, but this is all dreamworld for now.

I looked on ebay and found two of them, all beat the fuck up and missing key components. I then looked at another search result and up popped a thread on the Nintendo Age forums. It looks like they are trying to track down every single one of these things, even going as far as a mod calling them "our" televisions. They seem to do nothing but raise prices on the market. I've thought about registering at this site but browsing thru, it comes across as a bunch of rich pricks and elitist collectors. Not to mention that dumbass annoying Solomons Key thing in the corner when browsing with a phone/tablet. What the hell is that?

Why is that place way more active than this forum?

Yeah... I only post on Digital Press. I lurked here for years first, but I like that this is generally an older forum in member age and experience that seems a little more grounded as human beings and less prone to elitist nonsense. I'm sure they have some great members as well or even share quite a few here, but I prefer a more seasoned crowd that's less prone to getting swept up in trends.

Good luck with the TV, seems like it'd be pretty neat.

They are active due to them being speculators, that's it, the only thing one would go to that cesspool is for the option to keep order of your own collection.

Narrower focus, harbors avid collectors, crap-tons of cash flow through the buy/sell boards (largely due to the first two parts), participates in gaming community events, holds it's own community events and, regardless of how people around here feel about Dain, NA's fearless leader didn't ditch them at the drop of a hat.

The kind of people who see videogames as legitimate financial investments are not my kind of people. When I first joined this forum, the larger part of the community was into gaming. Before I joined, I lurked, and I recall the days when retro games were unbelievably easy to come by. Obscure stuff (even relatively obscure) like the TG16 and Jaguar were things that people wanted to get rid of. They weren't worth anything. Speculators such as these and eBay have sucked so much of the fun out of it.

Earthbound is one that really baffles me. I remember Best Buy practically giving these games away in the late 90s ($25, brand new) and even Funcoland for a while was selling it for a similar price used. It's not a rare game. It's a game that got some hype and has a very vocal following, which has caused hysteria about it and speculators saw that coming and are now able to scalp people for a game that you couldn't even give away 15 years ago.

People trying to buy up every single instance of something is just an extreme example of that kind of thing. It's no better than ticket scalping, really.

If I recall right the North American Sharp television is just using the standard composite output of the NES, I remember seeing one in person years ago and didn't consider the image anything special. You'd probably get a better picture out of a Commodore 1702 monitor or any CRT made much later like the Sony Wega if you were sticking with the system's stock A/V jacks.

It's not that great. If anything the TV is a bit off color since it's tuned for the NES itself. There's a slight difference than what you get playing it over a normal TV, kind of like the old magazine camera pictures from a TV on a demo station where it never looked like what you saw at home. The image is definitely not sharp, but since it's a direct feed from board to board, you don't get bad ghosting like RF does. The audio is nothing great, it's mono and not a good speaker either as it has a little noise to it. It's just the collectors and scalpers value, it has no good value if you want to play your games and have them look and sound great.

I joined their sister site SegaAge and personally find it mostly useless. I have nothing wrong with a site being collector and not gamer oriented, but the entire content is virtually filled with conversations that say nothing. Very rarely is anything of merit discussed and when it is brought up it goes silent immediately because nobody cares. If post content or grammar, punctuation, and structure are indicative of the poster's personality then many appear as vapid and immature.

That is something that I just can't stomach. You'll have one group of people that produce very convincing counterfeits carts that have no problems in finding business and others that will gladly discuss counterfeits and point users toward these sellers, then you have a diametrically opposed group that wants to see anyone selling new SNES box inserts eternally burn in hell. They'll launch a crusade to blacklist every person on eBay or any other site and do everything in their power to see such a person be punished for selling such a product. What's ironic is that one of these holier than thou crybabies that loves to pull out his goodguy badge is the very bird that constantly sells pirated SMS/Mark III carts on eBay.

Opinions are like assholes and people are free to spread their asses to the point of a colonoscopy, but if you view these actions as a heinous crime wedged somewhere between murder and child molestation then why constantly inhabit a forum that allows it? Why post a topic complaining about an eBay seller selling shitty Chinese Sega clamshells that's going to appear between a guy looking for a Wily Wars counterfeit and how to mod Darxide for a NTSC Everdrive setup?

Wow, so apparently when you try and register it redirects to their beta website? That's not what I wanted to do. Because they need to "review" my request and approve me because they value "quality" members. What the fuck is this? Freemasonry?

The beta website is what you want to use for the forums, anyway.

yea I don't think the beta version has that annoying "mascot" in the corner.

I have an account there, I like the idea of some of the things they have as part of the forums but I don't like the format
1 finds post per person, why not make it like ours? it doesent get out of hand that way.

but yea a lot of people with more money and time than the general population.
and as far as collecting for investment, I collect for fun but when I get to a point where I need money it comes in handy to be able to offload some of those games.

it saved my ass last month after work effed me on my check and sick time. I managed to make enough selling doubles to pay for gas and food since I didn't have enough for any of that after making the house payment

I've always kept that thing off, it was so big and in the way, especially on my smaller laptop before this and the mobile devices.
