Tried playing it on SNES recently. The problem I always had was trying to aim up when being shot at from above. It seems like the controls in a lot of early FPSs weren't the best.

The SNES has the 2nd worst frame rate but the 3DO is absolute worst.

My favorite port was the one on the PSX, it was the most polished over all even though once i played the PC release i saw how much was missing. The slow speed of the Revenant fireballs and how slow they themselves moved compared to the PC, and how slow the Cacodemons moved, really changed the gameplay and made it easy compared to the PC original. Im not sure if other console ports had the slow monsters but i think they did.

A runner up to the PSX would be the SNES Doom since it was really impressive considering the hardware, even though it had help from a FX chip. The levels are the closest to the PC original of all the ports as well believe it or not, and it has textures that the 32x version is missing. The 32x version for its time was good to, it could have been much much better than what it was though, it cut out alot of content that it didnt need to.

I agree, today the only console port that really has a unique feel is the PSX version. You can also double your fun with a friend and a serial link cable for deathmatch and coop.
