Default Replacement Disc Spindle for Gamecube?

Does anybody know of a place where I can purchase one of these? The spindle finally gave out on my brothers Gamecube and it appears to be some sort of proprietary deal, so the spindle in an old, broken CD player I had handy won't work.

Looks like the only way I can get one via eBay at the moment is by purchasing the complete drive assembly, which would actually cost more than buying an entire bare Gamecube console via eBay or ShopGoodwill. If somebody has a dead Gamecube lying around and can spare the spindle off it for a few bucks or trade or whatever, I'd be forever grateful.

if you live in a more densely populated area I would hit up a Goodwill Outlet, often times I find beat up game cubes there....
in your case though its still a Nintendo product so it'll probably still work. but they are usually pretty cheap even when I hit up outlets on other cities

Only other optical drive spindles I've seen like it were on Panasonic/Matsushita portable DVD players, which makes sense: they make the drive. I worked there in 1999 when it was announced that we got that contract.
