Did you know that in 1990 Nintendo of America was spending money developing the first online network for NES owners which would have allowed them to compete on-line, against other players coast-to-coast...? Long before "XBAND", the first online console gaming network was available for the Super NES and Genesis systems, Nintendo was originally trying to develop this technology for the NES, and even announced these plans to it's investors in 1989. Of course, these plans never came to pass, but you can read about them anyway in the 1989 Nintendo Annual Report!
