Default WTB: Wii Console (GameCube compatible)

    Hi everyone.

For some reason, my black Wii console doesn't want to work properly. I can turn it on using the Wiimote, but there are no IR lights on the sensor bar nor on the Wiimote. Tried with different bars, to no avail. Did the flashlight trick...no avail.

Nintendo still requests $75 for a repair, so I rather purchase one used.

I'm looking for a console that can play GameCube games, as I plan on using this to do both Wii and GameCube via component/HDMI (with adapter).

Would prefer a black or red console, but white is fine. Cosmetically in good condition, with all plastic tab protectors.

Hoping for a nice, decent price.

Also looking to repair or find a way to repair my defective unit. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Since you tried different sensor bars, there could be a fault with the connection port. Maybe it's not getting power to drive the IR sensors somewhere inside the system. Being able to turn the system on remotely suggests the bluetooth function still works...

Your description sounds like a failed sensor bar port. A cheap workaround would be a USB-powered sensor bar. I have this exact one and it works great.

I use a wall USB adapter that came with my phone to power it, but you might actually be able to plug it right into one of the USB ports on the back of the Wii.

    Oh my goodness, thanks guys!

With both suggestions, I remembered I had once purchased a wireless sensor bar for cheap at Sears. I inserted the batteries and it works!

With that, only the problem about loading games remained.

So I searched online for a guide that pretty much replaced everything, installs OFW, and does the final Wii softmod, without dIOS and mIOS. It fixed my console! I can now play games again!

Thanks so much for your help, Bratwurst and jperryss. You are both awesome.

Still interested in a backup Wii, if possible. But at least I can use my old one once again!

I see them on LetGo and Craigslist all the time for around $20.
