Default Scubibinman/Shockman Zero for Super Famicom- 2017 Cart Release Details

Schubibin Man Zero (Shockman Zero) was a Satellaview-only release way back in the mid-90s, which guaranteed that the game would remain obscure and hard to play. But retro hardware company Columbus Circle has obtained the license and is making physical copy reproductions of the game. That's right- a new-ish SFC/SNES game in 2017.

The on-sale date was supposed to be June 30th, but a certain Super store in Akiba is already selling the game, so I picked up a copy and just tried it out. Here is the early verdict:

Quality- the packaging is overall nice, box is attractive and well-done, and the manual is short, but full-color and also attractive. It'll hold up in comparison to actual SFC games of the original period. (There was one exception- the cart case dimensions itself were almost too big to fit into the SFC cartridge slot- you have to force it a little bit.)

Cart details with standard SFC "casette" for comparison:

How does the game play? So far, early impressions are good! The graphics are colorful and attractive, and the music's pretty good for this type of game. Perhaps the game's greatest advantage is the smoothness of the gameplay- you can move and dispatch foes quickly, which give the game a nice tempo. It helps that the responsive controls are up to the task.

On the downside, it seems like the gameplay might on the simple side, and could become repetitive over time. We'll see. But so far, I like it, and if it seems like you would be interested in this kind of game yourself, then you should probably check it out.

Here are a few screen pics to give you an idea of the action. Again, it looks and plays very well, I think the main question is how much fun will it be to play in the long run.

Interesting. Is language an issue? Has it been translated? Personally I've found most of the Satellaview games to be sub-standard or clunky.

Language- everything is in Japanese, but it's absolutely not necessary for the gameplay. So no need to worry, you're only missing a few lines of dialogue in some short cut scenes.

Quality- Actually, I've been impressed with the game quite a bit. The controls are spot on, I've enjoyed the graphical style, and the Megaman X type music is actually very good.

However, I wouldn't go into this expecting Final Fantasy VI-levels of depth or replayability; in the end, It's just an action game. But a fun one while it lasts.

I'd have to say that it is roughly similar, to be honest I have not spent as much time with the PC Engine originals as I should have!

It's not the forum, it's likely the web browser, they all seem to not obey the EXIF data in photos properly, so you have to manually edit them to rotate in Photoshop etc before posting.

Photoshop? That seems like a lot of work. Can everyone please just rotate your screen 90 degrees, tate-style, instead? Thanks!

My monitor weighs 65.7 lbs. There will be no rotating of this monitor.

It's a Diamond Pro 2070SB. It doesn't get better than this, aside from the F520 and possibly the FW900.
