Default Did anyone use X-Band back in the day?

I read that one can play a version of the Tron cycle in one of the menus so I was kind of intrigued.

Anyways if anyone has played it, what games worked with it? Was there lag? How similar was it to PS2/Xbox 360 online (the only systems I have experience with playing online)

Also, would it still work in 2018? Or would it only run on dial-up?

AFAIK it wasn't a direct dial setup like the Saturn Netlink modem, rather it dialed up a connection to X-Band's service and they did the matchmaking. Because of that it's a paperweight nowadays.

My cousin had it, you were basically playing 2-player SNES games with someone across the country on a 56K dial up connection. It ran smooth at times, but it was usually a choppy unplayable mess.

Yeah, it required a service that no longer exists.

I knew of it back in the day and it sounded fascinating, but I didn't even have a computer at home until around '97 or '98. Back then the internet was a totally foreign thing to me outside of something I used at school for research once in a great while. Even if I had wanted to use the X-Band service back then, I'm sure my family wouldn't have had the foggiest idea how to get it set up and going.
