    Default Dreamcast Online Scene

Dont know how many if any of you all play the dreamcast online, but dreampi 1.7 update was released which has several fixes to the 1.6 edition and incorporates the 2k software that Shuouma developed for dc players to play the 2k sports games.

He also just brought back NFL2k1, nfl 2k2, and ncaa 2k2 back online!! We have been playing these games online and they are great!!

Also, soon he's gonna open the servers for nba 2k1 and nba 2k2.

Please if you are interested, you should get a dreampi to start playing online again!

The BBA adapter is very expensive and only works with a couple of titles...pso and quake 3 i believe...

The dreampi is a raspberry pi with software installed on an sd card for dreampi with a usb modem attached to the raspberry pi...it taps into your broadband internet...just go to dreamcast-talk to find out more...dreamcastlive.net actually has a store you can purchase the kits from...they are very easy plug and play...only things you'll need to do on setup is probably disabling your firewall or enabling all traffic depending on your router set up. then set dmz on your router for the pi ....there are tutorials on the site...trust me its easy...i am not a technology sound person and i was easlily able to figure it out

Well, to be honest, the Dreampi Kits (currently out of stock) aren't much cheaper than the BBA. Furthermore, as cool as this *sounds* I did a check on Dreamcast Now, which has 300 players and a half dozen online. In other words, you spend all this money, and like most any online games that 98% of players have forgotten, there's nobody to play against.

The bba doesnt wwork on the majority of those games. And you are right the community is small. However, there is a game night scheduled each Monday at 9pm EST(for the sports titles), Wednesday nights @ 10pm EST for basically all the games other than sports...they are rotated each week...each Friday night starting around 7pm till whenever...is Fraggin friday with Quake 3 Arena....Every Saturday...i forget the time...is PSO...Every Sunday @3pm EST is the Europeon gamenight where they rotate all the games each week.

Also, there is a skype group you can join for DC players that makes it easy to schedule a random game... and with DC Now, people can see what game you are playing and joing at any time

Trust me, its a small community but I have played a ton of games online with this old machine....

BTW, NBA 2k1 and NBA 2k2 were just revived today with online play!!

Eh, I couldn't really get into it. Might be because I have to either turn on DMZ or Port Forward to get some of the more popular online games to work right, and both methods seem oddly difficult to do for me and I've never been able to get it to work right.

once you dmz the dreamcast you dont have to worry about anything else. the dreampi is a great plug n play solution. plus if you have any trouble setting it up, customer service (pcwzrd13) will walk you through everything. I know nothing about technology and he made it simple for me.

Very cool, I will have to check out the wi-fi version. Still have two Dreamcasts hooked up in the basement.

So I have one of the "wired" kits coming my way, after which I'll hook it up, and see how difficult the setup is.

It has a DMZ option, so long as I keep the DreamPi static.

Alright, so I got the "standard dreampi kit" off the Dreamcast Live site (now currently sold out), and it came nicely packaged and whatnot. They did a cool custom 3D printed case for the Pi, with the DC swirl cut out on top too. Anyway, I hooked it up with the USB modem (they modified to have a line inducer), and away I went. I got onto the lobby for Quake III right away, and played a game or two. Many of the non-BBA games don't get much use outside of purposed "game nights."

After about a day though, I had issues, and couldn't get anywhere. After a lot of prodding, and speaking to the DC Live guy, we realized that somehow my DreamPi had gotten an IP of 192.168.1.98. This is bad, because that's the IP that the Dreamcast itself should have! I fiddled and fiddled, and via some reboots and such, the Pi went back to a .8 and now it's working. Quite odd. Anywho, I assigned the Pi a static IP on my router, and it should be okay now.

    Party like it's 1999!
