I pre-ordered one of these on the chance it turned out hard to get like the NES classic. Wound up returning it based on reviews and plentiful supply. I'll probably get one when they go on sale or clearance. Really too bad they missed so badly with this thing.

I stopped by a local Wal-Mart, and they had four PlayStation Classics in their display case. Doesn't look like they've sold any, unless I'm mistaken (looked like there was room on the shelf for two more behind the four in the case). Oddly enough, there was no sign of the NES or SNES Classic in the Nintendo section of the display case; not sure if they've been discontinued again, or if they've sold out and haven't been replenished (didn't see price tags for them on the shelf).

The NES and SNES Classic are going out of production again, yeah. Nintendo says once the holiday season stock sells out, that's it.

Had a feeling that might be the case. Glad I got examples of both this past summer; hopefully, they'll be releasing revamped versions (and change their minds about the N64 Classic Edition) at some point. As far as the PlayStation Classic goes, hopefully the current model will be pulled from stores soon, and replaced with an improved unit. Granted, I have yet to experience its apparent issues for myself, but the concensus definitely hasn't been good.

I just couldn't get into the NES Classic. I'll probably sell mine if anyone is interested. I don't like the look of the picture, the size of the console, the short controller, save states, lack of playing cartridges

The Playstation Classic is already $30 dollars off at Amazon! How much cheaper do you think it'll go?

Man, if Sony played their cards right, this could've been big. Pretty much everywhere I go wearing my PS logo hat I get comments from younger (about mid 20's or so) folk that get visibly nostalgic for the ol' Playstation.

Apparently Sony lowered the MSRP across the board.

i noticed the same at best buy. i'm on the fence to buy at $60 though.

$100 was no way in hell, $60 is close to worth modifying territory

I would maybe pick this up for $5-$10 just to mess around with it, but I still might not keep it after. Does anyone here really need this for any real reason? Most of the games are common and we would already own legitimate copies of, and anything else could be burned to disc to play in a modded system. Playing PS1 games is pretty easy too as PS1, PS2, and PS3 consoles are pretty common and easy to get. We're all collectors here, I'm going to assume anyone here who's into the PS1 would already have everything they need to play these games already, probably purchased years ago and still owned.

i could see modding it and using it on the go, hotel rooms and what not.

that was my main reason for the NES/SNES versions. SNES mainly because it has more room and an extra controller than the NES

And the markdowns keep on comin':

The PlayStation Classic's Price Has Dropped To $40

In fact, using a promo code from a company who makes wacky ads about how to pronounce their name, you could even get one for $34.

And no, I couldn't help myself. In my case, I stopped into a local GameStop, where they had over a dozen PS Classics on the high shelf next to a smaller stack of NES Classics priced at the usual $59.99. The clerk said they were having a 'spring sale' and that the PS Classic was $20 off. After some hemming and hawing, I plunked down the $40, and gingerly walked out with my 'prize'. Set it up a little while ago, and thus far have had a nominal amount of fun playing a few of the included games. Haven't really noticed the slowdown issues that much as of yet, though I don't have a lot of experience playing original PS1 games. In any case, should be interesting to look into the possibilities for hacking these things.

I am thinking that at $40, it is essentially a wash for them, so anything below that means they just need to clear up some space and theyre willing to take the loss.

The only way I can see the PS Classic being a good buy is if one wants to play old games legally and the CDs have gotten to the point where disc rot has made them unplayable and its not possible to download them off the PS Store. So thats a lot of "ifs" but for me, itd be worth it if the discs stopped working on my original console

So how is the modding scene? I'm kinda thinking these might be a decent way to play the original King's Field fan-translated.

From what I've heard you may as well get a Raspberry Pi.

I was able to get one from Rakuten a couple days ago with their 15% sitewide coupon code. After factoring in about $5 rakuten points I had, I paid just over $29 shipped. These come with 2 controllers already whereas a Pi you will have to buy controllers. Are these things perfect? Absolutely not, but at a $30'ish price point with 2 controllers I think they're worth it.

What about a modded actual PS1, or a modded PSP? I'm pretty sure modded PSPs can play PS1 games and there's a TV out cable available. I just stick with actual PS1 or PS2 systems personally.

I'm not enamored by the Pi as a game system.

My NES and SNES Classics tickle my nostalgia bone. I can easily play my favorite games in, to me, near perfect emulation. Since it sounds like the PSOne Classic plays PS1 games natively near perfect, this would be right up my alley. Especially at those prices.

I had trouble playing translated KF1 on a modded PS1. Whenever I save my game, there's a random chance that the "saving" screen will never go away... meaning the file is corrupted, and progress is lost.

I recently played it on an emulator and that was fine. Its possible it was just that I was using cheap CD-R media but, well... I'm not made of money to keep experimenting with different CD-R brands.
