Unhappy Bubsy: Paws on Fire! (PC PS4 Switch)

    From the Bit.Trip devs:

Launching in 2019 for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

This Bubsy game already screams mediocrity.

I'm amazed yet another new Bubsy is coming out after the press and consumer feedback the last one got and what looked to be dismal sales (severe markdowns happened almost immediately).

I've played Runner 2, and it was pretty solidly mediocre. Is this game a runner too? I didn't notice any moment when Bubsy wasn't zipping forward, and the "Paws on Fire" subtitle would go along with him consistently running. I'm sure runners have their fans, but I like them less than standard platformers. It's like Accolade is going out of their way to create games as unappealing as possible.

I absolutely hate how this "franchise's" meme status made some company bring Accolade back from the dead. I'm 99% sure the joke was supposed to be "Hey guys, you've been joking about how bad Bubsy was, here's a good game now!" but it didn't turn out that way so now, hilariously, they are doing what the actual Accolade did in the 90s.

The Bubsy DLC Kickstarter is at $13,063 pledged of its $25,000 goal; 325 backers; 20 days to go.

I look at stuff like this and start wondering when something like a Kickstarter-funded revival of Army Men will happen. At least some of those games were a blast.

I would hope a Bubsy game would get an LRG release, just so people would have to buy it even though it sucks. And then prominently display it in their collection for all to see.

I'm gonna write to the official Bubsy Twitter account and see if I can provoke this into being a real thing.

Even if not from LRG, full set collectors and what have you are going to buy it. But if you've already made the decision to collect a full set, it's not like you're going to resent having to buy a crappy game. There's no library that has 100% good games, so full set collectors know what they're getting into. Even if some of the games are bad, there's enjoyment to be had just in getting one step closer to accomplishing your collecting goal.

Maybe see if a stretch goal can be a limited Dreamcast port too.

My a-paw-logies. I should have read the Kickstarter's description more closely - there's no need to talk to Limited Run Games after all! As it turns out, there is a $50 tier on Kickstarter for a physical PlayStation 4 copy of the game plus a CD-based copy of its original soundtrack.

While there is a physical copy being produced, it's not the same as an LRG release. People can skip over a general type release, but if it's an LRG release they'll have to buy it for a complete LRG set. For the bragging rights of owning a complete set.

If you count platform variants, LRG has put out over 200 releases at this point. There are very few people going for a full LRG set at this point, and the few who remain aren't complaining about the quality of the games. There are also tons of LRG copycats these days, so if somebody wanted every LRG release, they'd probably want every release from Strictly Limited Games, Signature Edition Games, Red Art Games, etc. etc. too, making it all the more financially unrealistic to get everything.

Their Kickstarter project reached 71% of its funding goal, so FUNDING DENIED. They say they are looking at still delivering some of the DLC for the game after launch.

FYI, physical versions of Bubsy: Paws On Fire! for Switch and PS4 have been announced. They will be published in North America only. Digital versions will be available in Europe and Asia. But as I recall, N.A. PS4 and Switch games should have no problem running on those consoles from Europe and Asia.

So Japan will finally be jealous of one of our exclusive releases! It always seemed to be the other way around with some Japanese game that never got a physical release here.

There were some nice games Japan missed out on back in the day, even ones made in Japan, like the StarTropics games.

They did get the first Bubsy on Super Famicom, but it's so rare it practically may as well been a Western-exclusive.

Bubsy: Paws on Fire! has been released for PlayStation 4 and Windows (PC). This summer it'll release for Nintendo Switch. Have any of you played it? Is it any good, and if not, then what could possibly have went wrong?
