Default NES port of SimCity has "resurfaced" apparently?

Was checkin' my Yahoo and happened to see this as a headline:

    https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/...150017097.html

I had once read that there was an NES port of SimCity but after having not seen it I assumed it was either an announced-but-never-released thing or... well, yeah. I didn't read the article but I guess someone found a prototype or something?

I just heard about this too. Apparently somebody in Washington state (must be someone who was a Nintendo of America employee or someone who had contact with one) appeared out of nowhere with a couple copies last year and went to a shop and convention to fish around for offers. Somebody bought one and other people got involved to get it dumped and released to the public.

Personally, I think the most interesting thing about it is that it has a unique soundtrack by the same composer who did the SNES SimCity (she also did Pilotwings, Super Mario Kart, etc.). There's only one track the two versions have in common.

I'd love to see this. SimCity was a higher-end game when it came out on 1989 computers, I imagine an NES version would be a quite stripped down port as (console) SimCity really needs 16 bit era hardware to make it work, that's probably why they canceled the NES version. The Genesis could have easily done it.

Funny thing is, I was still playing SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition just a few minutes ago. I've played the SNES version of SimCity on an actual SNES, it's great. I first played that around 2006. SimCity on SNES was 15 years old at the time, and I played it as a retro gamer. Today, I play SimCity 4 as a modern game, because EA dropped the ball.

It was brought into public by Frank Cifaldi and the Video Game History Foundation.

Unfortunately it uses MMC5 mapper, so most flash carts won't work with it.

My favorite SimCity is the SNES version... I bought it when it was re-released as a Million Seller, I actually have two boxes and manuals.

The title screen alone fills me with so much nostalgia.

One thing that struck me recently is how.... kinda easy the SNES version is. Last time I played I very nearly made a metropolis (for some reason growth seems to bottleneck before you get there, so there must be something I haven't figured out), when as a kid I basically never was able to sustain even a small city without constant complaints.

I've heard the PC Version is a bit more difficult but that's not the one I'm nostalgic for.

So I guess I'll wait for the inevitable repro cart.

I never had the patience to play SNES SimCity legit. I'd always use the money cheat. With that, I could get a Metropolis no problem, but I never was able to turn any of my cities into a Megalopolis.
