And now they're planning a sequel:

The Sega Genesis Mini Gets a Major Update With Sega CD Games and (For Now) Japan Exclusivity

Hopefully we'll be getting this in the US at some point...

According to this article, there will indeed be a worldwide release. Still no word on the US price or the included titles beyond a handful, with no mention of Sonic 3 and/or Knuckles...

I like that there are Sega CD titles on there. I'm hoping Sega will splurge for the F-14 license so we can get "Afterburner II" if it comes to the States.

If it comes out in America I hope it will make the original games cheaper in price. I'm not really into these modern mini consoles in terms of owning them. Maybe if they're cheap at a yard sale eventually.

I might buy this new mini just for Shining Force CD since a legit disc is stupid expensive now.

i like these mini console versions. seeing how most of them can be hacked it makes it a bit more fun for me i guess.

i'd get it if the price was right

I mostly don't like how these are pretty much HDMI only, I don't have HD displays so I would probably need a converter if I really wanted to use them. Composite output would be much more convenient. Otherwise I would just use emulation elsewhere, or for Sega CD games I could just burn them to disc as there's no copy protection. There's just other options I could use instead of these.

Not only that, but Sega will be resurrecting the gigantic flightstick controller which goes with it!

    Specifically from https://www.comingsoon.net/games/new...a-drive-mini-2 ,
    OutRun
    After Burner II
    Night Striker
    The Ninja Warriors
    Starblade
    Splatterhouse 2
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
    Megapanel
    Puzzle & Action: Ichidant-R
Columns III: Revenge of the Columns
    Star Mobile (Mega Drive debut) {This is a brand-new port of an old arcade game. -Nz17}
    And then there is this:

    https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2022/...s-the-sega-cd/

The console is all you need to play the games, Sega CD titles included, but for maximum authenticity, Sega is selling a purely cosmetic Sega CD accessory. It includes period-accurate mounting hardware and spacers for either version of the Mega Drive Mini, a tiny Virtua Racing cartridge, and a tiny Sonic the Hedgehog CD disc. The attachment will also be released in October for 4,500 yen (about $35).

Emulation is being handled by M2, the same team that did the original Mega Drive Mini. If the console is released outside of Japan, pricing, accessories, the design of the console, and the list of playable games may be different.

Looks like October 27th is the release date for the Sega Genesis Mini 2:

Amazon leaks Genesis Mini 2—Sega immediately confirms its October 27 launch

And for good measure, Sega's official page concerning the Genesis Mini 2 can be found here.

For good-er(?) measure, the Amazon listing which spurred the announcement can be found here.

You know what is funny about so many purchases ? They are totaly like click-bait to get you to submit your information guessing your probably using a phone that is on 24/7.
This and the "Megaman X Dive" on android that requires a facebook or google login. What do you really get with this? The same thing that is staring me off the corner of my eye.

I really wish SEGA could just combine all of their systems into one big package, but alias the joke becomes even funnier. The Dreamcast uses these CD-alternatives rather then a full on DVD-rom
drive and has a built in region block. So we would probably end up with a Blu-ray alternative with the option to use all cartridges in the rear and possibly save files to SD-flash. But here comes some random programmer who decides to backwards hack it.

I look at these little systems and think of my younger self going nuts and then throwing the controller down and then watching the system fly up at the same time.

Also remember this is"Sega-Sammy holdings". I mean okay cute, I get it, I see some parent buying this for their kids and then be like "Oh wows a Genesis"

Like having this technology in front of peoples faces when they see it in the living-room. "What is that". It is like that movie "Space 2000" with the apes and the monolith.
