I am personally a big fan of Grandia (I). I own two copies of it for PS1 as the first used copy I bought had a faulty, damaged Disc 1, but the game was so good I had to get a working copy for my PlayStation nonetheless. I hope this HD release finds a new generation of fans and delights the old fans too!

Can't believe I missed Grandia II on Dreamcast, it remains a really beautiful looking game. Played through a bit of it a couple years back with a friend and oh man, that main character is hilarious with his /r/atheist condemnation of the priestess chick.

I love the PS1/Dreamcast era of RPGs, and yet Grandia (first one) will be totally new to me.

I've never played any of the Grandia games, so this rerelease had my interest, but the "remaster" is looking pretty blegh: https://twitter.com/vontheodore/stat...93870954106880

Wow, that... totally sucks ass. Grandia is my favorite RPG, even though the PlayStation release is technically inferior to the Saturn original, even though it was censored a bit for the English release, it's just filled with so much damn charm and fun. Never been a fan of smoothing / blurring for old games and this is no exception.

For the record, Grandia II isn't my cup of tea. The battle system is fine, slightly enhanced / simplified take on the original, but I didn't care in the least about any of the characters. Grandia Xtreme is just bad. Grandia III is a game I actually enjoyed, overly melodramatic villains and all, as it captured some of the feeling of youth and adventure that the first game was built around. In terms of story feel, the most Grandia-esque game I've played is Steambot Chronicles, so if you're a huge fan of the original Grandia you may want to check that one out. (and you should anyway because it's an amazing game)

It would be nice if pixelated and smoothed were toggleable options.
