Here's my question: Do these mini consoles decrease or increase prices of CIB titles? I feel like theyd increase because of more visibility and thus making them more sought after. I heard the Virtual Console was part of why retro game prices exploded

There have been some cases where digital re-releases have produced a clear decrease in the price of older physical releases, but at this point, I think there are too many factors to draw conclusions. These mini consoles often contain games that have already been released in many forms, such as compilations, remakes, digital releases on VC, PSN, Steam, etc. Then there are modern games that stoke the fires of nostalgia like Smash Bros. and YouTube "celebrities" who hype up various retro games. If a retro game does increase in value, it's very hard to pinpoint a specific reason as to why. Most price increases can still be attributed to the general trend of systems/games shifting from modern to being viewed as passe and obsolete to then being viewed as retro and cool when they hit a certain age as the childhood players of those games also hit an age of greater disposable income and an interest in recapturing childhood.

Wikipedia claims that the PC Engine mini did get released in Japan on March 19th:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TurboGrafx-16_Mini

However, the US is going to have to wait until December 31st, supposedly:

Yeah, the PC Engine version is indeed out. I've seen plenty of Westerners who imported playing it. I guess that version was manufactured earlier than the others, so they were able to get it done before coronavirus started impacting everything.

Rather annoyed, konami went ahead and put stock into getting it's release out in japan first.Yeah sure you can buy one from amazon jpn that way but it's to late for me anyway.I had preorder one through amazon u.s and used a gift card as a down payment. So i gotta wait at this point but i still have a tg16/pce collection of games that i can play still. If any thing i was just buying one for the novelty sake so i can wait on getting a mini.

Also MLIG had there review put up a few weeks ago and as it turns out it's not perfect.

Any other early reviews? I already repurchased the Bonk games on the Wii U's virtual console a few years ago so I'm curious how it compares to that. Does the system include an option to stretch the visuals to 16 by 9, widescreen?

No argument here, ha ha. I personally wind up modding these things anyway, so the only limitations I dislike are hardware.

Update it's place holder date has changed for may 22th this year instead of next year.
    https://www.amazon.com/TurboGrafx-16.../dp/B07QD9GQ9J

I all most did consider buying one from amazon jpn but i decided against it.Since that would have meant spending more money to import it and shipping to.Beside the fact japan post has stop shipping internationally temporary, since now it's just being handle by DHL.Anyways if this date holds then i'm fine with it's u.s release for may.

Best way to play the real deal is to get a PC Engine. The system wasn't successful enough in the US for much of anything to be plentiful enough to stay cheap. The Japanese releases are way cheaper, and in most cases, language isn't a barrier. Most of the text-heavy games never got a US release to begin with.
