Default What is your favorite video game quote?

I could fill this post with a hundred quotes from Zelda, Mario, Morrowind, Metal Gear Solid 2, Portal, Mortal Kombat, Shenmue, just to name a few but I really have to say this is my favorite quote:

"What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets. But enough talk. Have at you!"

I had never thought of mankind that way before but Dracula and his ilk embrace the dark and cruel world that we live in while man hides his sins. And sometimes I wonder how bad it would be if there werent a criminal justice system to keep people in check.

That quote is actually from a French novelist named André Malraux and wasn't in the original Japanese script (well, obviously, but I mean it's not really a translation of what Dracula had been saying):

I disagree with the author of this article and the people that think the voice acting and lines are bad and I think the English version is better than the Japanese.

It reminds me a lot of how people complained about Resident Evil. Some of the lines in the game are funny "Woah- this hallway is dangerous!" I read a breakdown of all the lines in the game and why the translations sound off

I don't really see what there is to disagree with the author about. It's not really an opinion piece. It's just a site that looks into famous lines from game localizations, compares them to the original Japanese to see how faithful the translations are, and tries to explain any background factors behind the choices that were made. And it's all done by a professional localizer who's very experienced in the field.

I mean, he even ends the article with: "It sounds like some English remakes/ports have since redone this scene to be closer to the original text. I haven’t played them so I can’t comment on them, but because of how memorable this scene is I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of fans were disappointed that this text was changed. Was that the case? Or was it a welcomed change? Let me know!"

So he lets others come to their own conclusions on what's good or bad.

But, I mean, as far as the English voice acting goes, it's all but objectively bad. The delivery is poor and stilted. The voice acting can still be enjoyed and can definitely be funny, but the scene was never intended to be comedy, so that just goes to show how the acting fails at what it's meant to accomplish. Practically no professional in the field of acting would say that's good acting. It's very amateurish, like a middle school play. But that's just how dubbing was back then, and it's a separate matter from the quality of the text itself. If there were no voice acting in SotN, I suspect this scene would not be remotely as memorable.

    Conker's Bad Fur Day:

    Birdy: "The button...there...is context sensitive....means it's sensitive...to.....context..."

Franky: What the damn diddly-squat are you doing in my barn?

Conker: Well I never, it's a talking pitch fork.

Franky: Not from 'round here, are you boy?

Conker: No, I'm from the twenty first century.

Franky: I don't rightly recollect liking your type. Therefore I conclude that I is gonna kick your butt around this barn like there's no tomorrow.

Conker: [thinking] What the heck's he moaning about?

Franky: I is gonna stick my big fork right into yers.

Conker: Were your parents related? Like, before they were married?

Franky: Right! That's it. I is gonna give you a whupping! Here we go!

    Where there's hated, sow justice.
    Where there's injury, pardon.
    Where there's doubt, hope.
And may a swift and certain death befall anyone who stands in my way.
Ain't much of a prayer, but it sounds good.

    From Brigandine:

Victoria (to Cierra) : "What's wrong with calling an old hag an old hag?"

    Shining Force II

I don't remember who says it (I think it was another NPC) or the exact phrasing.

"If Astral dies it doesn't matter cause he's old anyway."
When I come home from a long day in Hell, there's nothing I'd rather reach for than a fire-brewed bottle of Styx Beer. Made from the filthiest waters from our own River Styx. Styx Beer is a third more toxic than any other regular beer. The worst beer - the filthiest beer - the deadliest beer. It's Styx Beer!

All I can think of are the quotes from the guys from Aerosmith in the Revolution X arcade game. They were delivered with flatness and a total lack of any effort.

Steven Tyler: 'Looks like you made it. Where you go from here is up to you.'
Joey Kramer: 'Stop the New Order bus.'
Joe Perry: 'They're putting chemicals in all our food.'
Brad Whitford: 'Destroy ChemiTech. It's a front for the New Order.'
and the topper from bassist Tom Hamilton: 'Tear down the wall.'
“The world has, forever and always, been brimming with shit-heads.” - Dana Gould

There's still a lot of hilarious Engrish in modern games. You just have to look at the stuff that's more niche: https://legendsoflocalization.com/sw...gment-gallery/
