Help with keeping gear SOTN saturn

Guys,
I’m stuck trying to do the trick where you skip death to keep your gear in the Saturn version of sotn. I’m following all videos on YouTube and I think my placement is precise on where to get knocked back but no matter what it will never knock me completely through deaths room. If someone had done this before would you mind weighing on what I might be doing wrong. I’ve done this with the psp and Psone classics version on ps3 so not sure why it’s not working.

If Ive beaten the NTSC PS1 version of SotN 100%, is there any real reason to play the NTSC-J Saturn version besides just being able to say I played it

It has a couple of new areas not found in the PS1 version, and an extra familiar I think, which is just functionally identical to another one. You can also play as Maria.
