    I played through this yesterday.

The graphics look great and it's neat seeing that art style applied to an SNES platformer. The music was fine but I turned the sound off after the first level because Mario shouts every single time he jumps, which gets annoying.

To me it was more difficult than the original due to some awkward jump physics and momentum, and wall/floor alignment. The original game was a bit off in this regard, but this one was tougher to get used to. You can wall jump in this version but it's not as natural as Nintendo's implementation in later games. I also died many times on the final boss.

Overall, worth playing through at least once.

For a one man production (more or less), it's absolutely amazing. I have my hunches regarding who coded it (as this person I am thinking of has created some other amazing things for the SNES and I *believe* they may have been directly tapped by Nintendo to code things for them in the past - which would further lend the need to remain anonymous), but whoever it is, they are stunningly talented.

The "mario physics" may not be 100% faithful to New Super Mario Bros or Super Mario Land, but Super Mario Land physics (and general game design) tend to make it a bit of a black sheep of the Super Mario 2D platformer series, but whether it's the original on the GB or this home-brew masterpiece, both are great.

I wholly recommend any Super Mario fan grab a copy of this and fire it up in the latest BSNES to at least give it a play through.

If Nintendo were smart, they'd track down and hire the coder to deliver this as a commercial product. There definitely would be a market for Nintendo-approved SNES cartridges for a "new" SNES Mario game.

looks really cool. I know theres zero chance in hell that itd happen but my best hope is that Nintendo makes a deal with the developer and they release it in a form I can and want to play it on (SNES cart)

Edit- also... it reminds me of early (very early) footage of a prototype version of New Super Mario Bros. for the DS. And I actually liked that graphical style more than the finished product.

Apologies for resurrecting this old thread.
While version 1.0 of New Super Mario Land was unfortunately released in a suboptimal state back in 2019, major improvements have been made since then in terms of gameplay, performance, music and stability.
For more information on the current version 1.5, see here.
Version 1.5 even has a fix for a SNES hardware bug related to the Screen Brightness register, thanks to information from Byuu/Near.

If you haven't played the game yet or were put off by shortcomings of the initial version, please give it a try!
I think it's a lot of fun, especially in multiplayer mode with a couple of friends.
