Default What do you do with your doubles?

If I have an exact same copy of a game that isn't a variant, I generally will see if my local brick and mortar will give me store credit for it. Otherwise if there is a big enough gap, I will eBay it. I mean if there is a $10 difference between what the brick and mortar gives me and what I walk away with after eBay fees, PayPal, shipping, etc. I will go eBay route.

I dont f*** with Craigslist anymore because I got tired of endless correspondence with trying to figure out an agreed upon time to meet as well as the inevitable haggling. and of course it always feels like a drug deal to me to meet a stranger at a gas station and exchange money.

Ive never considered donating them because Goodwill has become a pawn shop essentially and Savers, well I know their employees essentially take the games home with them from what Ive heard

I generally dont hoard copies of a game and since I dont run a game store myself I dont see the point in keeping extra copies around. If a disc stops working I can just get it resurfaced

If it's got a high enough value to be worth the trouble, I'll sell on eBay. Otherwise I'll bundle them with a system if I get a spare, or I'll give them away via Secret Santa, or what have you. Some dupes I keep on purpose, just because it's a favorite game.

Good question. I respect not wanting to give duplicates to Goodwill Industries. Apparently, the CEO makes a lot of money.

I never really collected too many duplicates. I supose Super Mario Bros. + Duck Hunt is the main exception--and I think I've kept all of those, hehe.

well my problem with Goodwill is that when I was growing up, it was a company where you donated your crap and then theyd sell it at a low price because essentially the store was supposed to cater to low income people. since all their inventory was donated, they can still afford to pay their employees. I always saw it as a non-capitalist company where they basically just sell stuff low enough to keep the lights turned on. now it seems like they are in it to suck as much money from their customers as they can.

The buy price at my local B&M is almost criminal. I mean I know they need to turn a profit but damn. a dollar for a game I can sell online and get 5x that.

back in the day, B&Ms would give you 1/2 of what they sold it for. now youre lucky to get a third of that

Some games I have doubles of on purpose. Baseball Stars Nes for multiple teams/seasons or Genghis Khan Nes playing multiple scenarios. From time to time I'll hunt for a condition upgrade and try and sell the double to recoup some of my costs.

I'm impressed you guys have brick-and-mortar stores that purchase retro games at any price.

The one near me isnt doing the best. they dont get much for trade-ins. honestly eBay has made brick and mortar stores all but pointless for many people though Id also say the Facebook groups contributes to it as well. I think in urban areas, game stores can really thrive because of the younger population and lower income people who need quick cash so theyll trade in their games.

pricing is a big point of contention.. why am I going to trade in a game to a place that will give me a dollar when i can get ten times that on Ebay

Are their selling prices at least decent?

The closest thing in my neck the woods is a mom-and-pop video rental store. I have never even set foot inside it, yet its tenacity for life somehow makes me happy every time I drive past it... It's open late, too, with its glass storefront often casting the only light in an otherwise pitch black strip center.

im guessing that means they rent out pornography to old men who dont have internet

as far as prices, no they are kind of a ripoff. they list way above eBay for a lot of the stuff

I'm finding second&charles to be cheap on trade ins cashback isn't much but store credit gives more.

I keep them, you never know when one might die, and you'll have a spare to play.

Yup...I do the same. Incase one copy go bust, you will have another copy as a backup. I had several game die on me and finding another one can cost way more now than a decade ago.

I usually don't keep doubles as I lack a lot of storage space, but I sometimes do if I worry a game would die on me somehow. Only if it was cheap though, otherwise I'd rather recoup what I spent on them.

is it bad that i have 3, 4 or some times even 5 copies of one game?
when i know i am getting dupes i use them as trade bait or sell off consoles... neither of which happens often

when i dont realize i am getting a duplicate i go, oh crap, toss it aside and forget about it till i open that box and wonder, why do i have 4 copies of NES pinball?

If I keep a double of a game, it is usually one that is worth something, and I hold onto it for a rainy day. Most of the doubles I have are in the vein of keeping one sealed and keeping one to play. That is mostly for modern games though, as I don't actively seek out sealed classic games.

The other times I get doubles, I just sell them on e-bay. If I can't turn a profit on a single game, I'll wait till I get another and bundle them together. I don't bother with game shops mostly for reasons mentioned above. They aren't going to give you crap, and you can usually do better on your own. They only times I ever trade anything in is if it just isn't going to sell on ebay, and too heavy to bundle with other stuff. Only problem is the game shop closest to me won't take them either. The store near me also has high prices and not always the greatest stock as well. I could see them either moving to a cheaper unit or closing up at some point.
