I agree it's not very good design, but it's typical of 80s games and GameFAQs and such help make up for it. I suppose the mentality behind it back in the day is that the Famicom/NES was so ridiculously popular that it wasn't uncommon for lots of kids to be playing the same game, so they probably expected these sorts of obtuse games to be played as a community effort, with everybody collectively figuring things out and sharing their discoveries with others.

No way is metroid harder than battletoads. The whole secret to metroid is realizing you have to bomb everywhere; that and get the varia. There are enough powerups that the bosses arent that hard. Metroid has secrets you need to discover, but battletoads is just brutally difficult.

Invalid list really no mr.gimmick on there Try beating that game to get the good ending.Beside you have to collect specific items in each level to reach the final level,without continuing for the best ending.

I should mentioned that a few of the games people are mentioning are further down on the list, like 21-35.

Yeah, Gimmick is a hard one, but I thought the 'list' was of NES (us released games)
If you were to include famicom games on the list it would get alot more complicated
