1. Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon (GBA) 2/28
2. Bill & Ted's Excellent Game Boy Adventure (GB) 3/15
I started the GBA version of Shining Force back in 2020, not long after finishing Starfy 2, and I blew through most of the game quickly, but with my daughter constantly growing and changing, I hit another stretch where I had basically no gaming time, so the game sat at the last chapter for a long time. I can see why people don't like this as much as the Genesis original (the graphics are kinda ugly, the default difficulty is way toned down, etc.), and I was annoyed that I missed Hanzou and Musashi because they changed how to recruit them and moved them to earlier chapters, so by the time I was expecting to recruit them, it was already too late. But I still had a lot of fun with it, and I can't be too bummed about what I missed because this version is designed to be replayed, what with all the card collecting and the difficulty increasing each loop. So maybe I'll give this version another playthrough someday.
My husband bought me the Game Boy Bill & Ted game as a gag gift, more or less, but it's surprisingly non-heinous, haha. I think this is only the second time I've beaten a game published by LJN? I mean, considering they're usually impossible trash. It's a very simplistic game, and the controls are a little sloppy, but it's still decent as a puzzle platformer. There's a fair bit of trial and error, but the game is pretty generous with the lives and continues, so that's not too frustrating. It's not faithful to either movie that existed at the time, but I think it's interesting how they combined both movies, and the game isn't bad about cramming as much from them in the game as possible. I mean, you got historical figures like Abraham Lincoln, Napoleon, and Billy the Kid, but also Death, the Easter Bunny, Granny S. Preston Esq., etc. It feels like the people who made the game were fans of the movies and tried to reference everything they possibly could.

I was having a hard time getting my daughter to stay down for the night (not uncommon for us), so my husband put this on for me while I had no choice but to stay up real late. I was playing the US version this time, but I could've sworn the Japanese version had cutscenes with dialogue before each match, unless I'm confusing it with another puzzle game. Well, still a lot of fun either way.
15. Pokemon Ultra Moon for 3DS (same status as Pokemon Sun, Moon and Ultra Sun - beat the Pokemon League, saved the game, just haven't filled my Pokemon collection, but hey I saw the credits roll so it's minimally beaten)

5. Patchwork Heroes (PSP) 8/19
Back when it was announced that the Vita and PS3 PSN stores weren't going to shut down after all but the PSP PSN store was still going down, I started looking into digital-only PSP exclusives that were Vita compatible, since it was unknown if PSP games would no longer be available for purchase on any platform. Eventually, we learned only the PSP store was losing them, but I figured I may as well buy the games that interested me anyway, as the Vita store won't be up forever either. So I bought several and have been toying around with a few the last couple months. I just beat the story mode on the normal difficulty in this one. Really unique and fun arcade-y game. It's like a mix of Qix and Dig Dug in the style of Borat, if you removed all the adult humor of Borat and turned it into a children's book, haha. They don't give a setting, but it definitely has that hybrid Russian/Arabic feel of Central Asia. It's really a shame that this game was lost to obscurity due to being a digital-only PSP exclusive in the West. Thankfully, there's a UMD version, so even once it's completely unavailable digitally, there's still a way to get it outside of piracy, but the localization is actually pretty charming and amusing, so it'd also be a shame for English speakers to miss out on understanding the text. Anyway, my completion percentage is still only like 40%, so I'm gonna work on clearing the stages on other difficulties and filling out the resident list and graveyard.

6. Baku Baku (Game Gear) 8/28
For my birthday, my husband bought the necessary parts and fixed my Game Gear for me. I think it was around a year and a half ago when I discovered it was no longer working right? So it's really nice to finally be able to play it again, even if my collection of games for it is pretty small. It was when my husband gave me Baku Baku and another Game Gear game that I learned it was broken, so I got a chance to finally put some some time into Baku Baku and quickly blew through all three difficult modes. I got a password for a special mode after clearing Hard, but I read all it does is string together the three modes and remove the passwords. Seems pointless when the difficulty isn't altered and continues are infinite anyway. So maybe I'll give it a whirl or maybe I'll just move on to something else.
