Default Atari VCS 800 seems to be the hot ticket.

At the 99.99 fire sale Gamestop just did with them. Who here thinks that if this thing was released at 199.99 it could have found a market for itself? Hell maybe even as high as 249.99. It seems that people are buying them up on Ebay for 249.99 up to 299.99 for the All-IN-Bundles. Who here would have picked one up for that price or maybe still will grab one as the price drops? I myself might have picked one up for 199.99, and if I do see one for 99.99 I for sure will grab it.

Isn't this a computer from 1979? Is it getting a rerelease at Gamestop?

its that new console which appears to finally be out. i'd pay $100 for a ryzen based micro computer, that seems about right.
plus user serviceable parts inside? heck yea

but when did this thing release?

    seems kinda strange

This came out June 2021 for 399.00. It still sells for that price today at a few stores. You can get it for about half that price on Ebay. Gamestop had them for full price up until they decided to dump them for 99.99, and they sold out fast.

Is this going the way of the Ouya? Would probably make a convenient emulation system, but that's probably all I'd ever do with it.

I would have to say its better than Ouya. It can run Linux and Windows 10. Plus is also upgradable with RAM and a M.2 SSD.

I forgot that there was going to be a console coming out, I really thought it would be named something else for whatever reason. Based on the name I thought maybe there was a new "Mini" console coming out by that name just like various other consoles and vintage computers recently had. Really, that's a terrible name for a new console, though this is really just a computer that can run anything like any other new computer. It's like hearing that Nintendo's next console will be named the "Nintendo SNES Gamecube".

The price is still listed at $399.99 from that link you provided, though as I'm in Canada maybe it's showing a different price for me. The site kept trying to redirect me to their Canadian site so it took some effort to stick to the US site.

So months later. I did finally pick up not one, but two of these VCS 800s. I have to say other than having to flash the original Atari OS when first hooking it up. The Atari VCS is exactly what I thought it would be. A nice little mini computer first that you can choose what OS you want to run, and some upgrades if you choose to do them. Then as a retro type console in Atari OS mode second. I see this more as a hobbyist cpu that is light years ahead of a Raspberry Pi in terms of performance. Makes a great emulation machine. Long story short. I am very happy with my purchases for what I am using these VCS's for. If you know your way around a computer I would say for 199.00 the VCS is not a bad purchase at all. You can still buy these at Best Buy, and at Atari.com.
