Default Keeping the PS3 FAT yellow light of death (YLOD) at bay?

i havent shared yet but i found a working PS3 CECHA at goodwill today (will share late in finds thread) and i was amazed.

i have a good idea from my computer building and overclocking but i thought i'd ask here what methods you'd you to keep the YLOD at bay?
basically heat management or improvements to the cooling system

i have an idea in my head but i thought i'd open it up since i am in both camps of PC hardware and Gaming collecting / preservation

maybe i should water cool it

From what I've heard of this model, to keep it alive it would need to have the chips reballed/resoldered with leaded solder, and the thermal paste all needs to be replaced.

so taking a closer look at it, surprisingly it hasnt been opened and the heatsinks are clear.

i'm wondering if some one got it and it sat around unused for most of its life

Man, wish I could be so lucky. I've been looking for a BC one at an affordable price. From what I have read:

-Use MultiMan on Custom Firmware to change the fan speed of the PS3
-Add new thermal paste to the CPUs.
    -Replace the NEC/Tokin Capacitors.

This should be done before it YLODs, because once the YLOD occurs thats usually it. Let me know if you are interested in selling it.

If it wasn't unused it would be dead. A friend of mine bought a used working one off the local classifieds and actually used it regularly, it died within a month of use. She ended up buying a slim PS3 from a local game store to replace it, I ended up helping her sell the broken PS3 locally as a parts unit as she originally just planned to recycle it as any other broken electronics. She lost money on it but at least got something back after it died.

I didn't know about the capacitors needing replacing too, so I learned something.

ok well it was surprisingly used a bit, firmware 4.65, lots of donwloaded games and uploaded pictures. few ridge racer games left loaded on it and, Tom, the owners name was in to cars but sadly took too many pictures of his bog standard camry
