I got the American physical version as I couldn't order the Japanese one at a decent price. I liked the swag, which is on my desk at work. I find I also REALLY enjoy the game and never thought I'd be into trying to beat my times. You play through each challenge, see your time and go "oh, come ON! I can do better than that!" and you try again. And again. The elation I felt when I just shaved some fractions of a second off my time was huge and very unexpected.

I tried my hand at World Championship Event #2 that ends on Monday. I can't see any rankings/comparisons yet but I will admit it would be a thrill if my times weren't beaten at any level. I know they'll probably get clobbered (I think I had only completed one trial with an "S" with the rest A+ or A++) but maybe I'll hang tough vs those from my birth year.

You can watch the best entries from the last competition and use that to learn how to tackle the same events in single player. I saw how someone did the "Rushroom" or "Mushzoom" entry (it's in SMB where you have to get the first mushroom in world 1-1) and I have no flippin' clue how they turned Mario backwards to pull this off. I can do it in 5.45 seconds....the reigning time is 3.5 by doing a backwards jump over the first ? block, which lands you on the first goomba and prevents your momentum from dragging you further. You then jump to hit the mushroom block then run and jump onto the row of blocks above you to claim the fungus. Another person pulled off the Zelda "Kill all the octoroks" in 1.9 seconds!
