Namco is celebrating Pac-Man's forty-fifth anniversary this year!
Was 2010 the year Google had a playable Pac-Man maze in the logo? Feels like so long ago that Google wasn't set on turning itself and YouTube into AI garbage but that's a derail.
Happy Anniversary Pac-Man! It's astonishing how much of a contribution to video games he was.
Pac-Man did not grab me in the arcades, so I spent most of my time with Space Invaders back in the day. I respect Pac-Man's legacy and added many Pac-Man games to my collection over the years, but because my initial impression was poor, I never played any of them. Strange considering I find most maze games appealing. Maybe it's because I prefer to shoot and kill things and not engage in gluttony.![]()
I always meant to play Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness because the updated graphics and sokoban style puzzles looked fun, but somehow never got around to it. It's still on my games I must play before I die list.
When I began collecting Amiga CD32 games I was made aware that Amiga's Fury of the Furries game was later reskinned by Namco with Pac-Man characters to become Pac-In-Time. Who knew!
This thread makes me feel old pac-man was one of the first that i played in arcades.Though these days i often play ms.pac-man more then the original.
My first memory of Pac-Man was Ms. Pac-Man on NES, which we rented from the corner video store. After a few hours, I hit a wall where you can't just bullshit your way through mazes anymore, actually learning patterns was required. Then my mother walked in and asked for the controller. See, she didn't seem to like video games much, but played a lot of Ms. Pac-Man a lot before I was born and wanted to try. She sat there for four full uninterrupted hours clearing maze after maze after maze, just completely rocking that shit. All these years later, the patterns still stick to me. I couldn't for the life of me tell you what I had for breakfast this morning, but I've got a mental sub-process chaining perfect cherries behind my words as I type this. Funny the things that stick with you.
Looking at the channel those videos are posted from, looks like the first one was actually uploaded three months ago. Since then, they've added more fun animations and a couple trailers for that Pac-Man metroidvania Shadow Labyrinth. Worth a look, fun stuff.
And I guess this is a great excuse to drop the official Championship Edition Demake for those that haven't seen it:
