CDI Rarity Guide

Man I keep hoping for an update on this one, I'm sitting on 30-40 complete cdi games, curious to know if I got a few rarities (although they might not be valuable)I know there's a really small market out there for these titles, if people are interested ill post up a list here, if not to e-bay they go

not to pretend like i know anything about CDi. but a local place has about 70 complete cdi games, movies, junk moreless. and there is little to no market because i've looked into it. the best way to tell if a game may be worth $20.........does it have anything to do with nintendo characters? Link, Hotel Mario......etc.....zelda. those will bring a few bucks. if you have anything like that.....offer it here, but for the most part i would ebay the rest of the lot. its not even worth sitting on. that's why i didn't buy all i found locally.......bought the link game, traded it and they can sit on them

The CD-i list hasn't seen much action because it's lacking a "champion". I've been spending the bulk of my time on Genesis and 3DO the last few months and everyone else is assigned to something that ISN'T 3DO. Which means it's going to sit there until someone who knows quite a bit about the system steps forward or I finally get around to it.

So. ARE there any CD-i aficionados in da house?

actually i stopped out and picked some stuff up and it appears they've decided to work with me. probably $3 a piece unless they are still new. but some are faded and stuff, and well.......i really dont think there is anything there worth being bought. i've checked everywhere for games that are worth anything and they dont seem to have a single one. i bought the only one worth the time of day. but if you want i can check for some and get them sent to you. if not then i wont

You basically just find a rough list, if possible, add what you can, ask others for input, then post/publish it. Whatever is missing, you will be scorned for by readers until it's added. :-) Proof helps that it exists, if there is ambiguity...sometimes people like to make shit up.

There's really no formula for it. Most of our classic system lists began as handwritten lists from our personal experiences that began many years ago (before the internet was a viable option), and the lists get fleshed out with information as it is researched, submitted, and acquired. Prices are NOT based on eBay although we'd be foolish to ignore the 'bay - most of the lists pass through the hands of many of our editorial staff (the subject matter experts) and we quibble over the rarities and values. It's actually more fun than it sounds. Other times when information is lacking, I go out hunting for knowledgeable collectors, insiders, and system experts to shore things up, then we tweak again based on our experience.

The fact that we're pretty much "public knowledge" now means that I receive emails on a daily basis about "such and such price being wrong" or "so and so game isn't rarity X", and this is a good thing - it keeps the database ever-current. Though now with over 20,000 titles in the database even the whoppin' big crew that works with these sections isn't whoppin' enough to catch everything!

Does anyone have or played Axis & Allies for the CD-I? Thats the one title I would want if I ever picked up the system.

Hi Joe,

I just got a huge lot of CDi stuff from Nesuser2, and I've got a bunch of additions to the list for you, so here goes:

-You have ABC Sports Presents the Palm Springs Open, yet you duplicate it by listing Palm Springs Open as it's own game, when it is not. It does however, come in small and large cases (as many Cdi titles do, I guess)...same title though. Maybe there really was a just "Palm Springs Open" and I'm wrong...if I am not wrong, note that you mention you don't know the publisher's name, but you do on the ABC one

-Probably not important, but I got International Tennis Open in Purple, Blue, and Green box color variations. The Blue one was in with the CDi Box...dunno if it was a packin, but there it was. It said "Simultaneous 2 Player Game" on it. The Purple said "2 Player Game" on it, and the Green didn't say Jack.


-Tennis Our Way is listed as publisher unknown. Well, I don't know who published it, but the copyrights are 1994 Worldvision Home Video, and copyright 1994 Phillips Interactive Media. Digital Video Cart required.

-A Visit to Sesame Street: Letters is published by...dunno, but the box says "(c)1991 Children's Television Workshop. Sesame Street puppets characters (c) 1991 Jim Henson Productions, Inc." "Distributed by American Interactive Media, Inc." Produced by "Children's Television Workshop In cooperation with Philips Interactive Media of America" Hope that helps.


-Got some titles to add to the list:

-Treasures of the Smithsonian
-Rand McNally's America-United States Atlas

The thing about CDi pricing is that you've got people on eBay trying to throw them away, and some people frantically trying to find Zelda's Adventure (probably 'cause they've never seen any screenshots from it...) Really, I think a significant portion of the CD-i titles that change hands, maybe 1/3 or as much as 1/2 of those sold are actually just thrown on as freebies sent with the purchase of a system, more or less what I did.

Thanks Rob. All info is good info as long as it's accurate info. I've got a really good collection of CD-i stuff myself but honestly trying to play through them is pretty awful. And after my experience with the TRS-80 games I'm not really looking forward to playing for the sake of documenting again anytime soon!

You got it, Joe. I wasn't feeling anal enough that late at night to get you model numbers, though....I also wasn't sure if you wanted those movie titles...would be cool to see them on the list though, considering every CDI title is essentially a movie, and that no game section is pretty borderline half the time.

The CDI almost reopens the argument for putting application titles for other systems into the guide (which I think should be in there anyway, since spreadsheets are so damn fun), considering many CDI titles really do border on applications, not that there are ummm, applicable, lol, or useful.

But actually...those dictionary and language translation carts..are those on the GB list? Bah, never mind...don't wanna open up a can of worms.


It's just that ome games are so wretched that some of those application titles for some of the systems inthe DP guide actually are more fun than those awful games. Sad but true.

How about this for an idea: If the system was not intended to be a home computer, and was strictly intended for entertainment, then why not include application titles? Seems the CDI list is really starting to just that, so...how about the other non-pc systems that had app titles?

Just entered your updates into the database: two comments/questions:

1. Who is the manufacturer on the Atlas, Brer Rabbit, and Smithsonian titles? I'm assuming Philips, they did almost everything for CD-i (the developer is usually the tricky one).

2. We're not logging in CD-i movies. Kind of the same reason for not doing productivity stuff. It's very "pedestiran" and we're video game collectors. I've found that 99% of the community isn't interested in this non-game stuff, though we HAVE started a new category for demos and such.

Check the CD-i list online in an hour or so, the changes have been noted there

What database program do you use to compile the rarity lists? I'm just curious -- is it something commonly available, or a special Digital Press concoction?
