    Default Future collectibles of today?

Sometimes it amazes me for how much a Mega Man X3 or a Castlevania Dracula X goes nowadays. At first sight it's pretty insane, at second sight it's rationally explainable.

One of the big advantages of having experience and knowledge about videogames is the ability to recognize good games (independently from individual preferences and hardware restrictions) and to make educated guesses about future demand/supply processes of current games and hardware. The latter goes in particular for experienced collectors.

Looking back at and applying the conditions which make games/hardware sought after collectibles today, for which of the more recently released games/hardware/accessories (let's say 5 years) the demand will be higher than the supply and why?

In short: Among the newer games/hardware, what are the in-demand collectibles of the future ?

US Metal Slug 3 for the Neo Geo is sure to go up in price, judging by the past Metal Slug games, and the fact that it finally sold out over at the neo store. Only 500 were produced.

Ring of Red? A rare game?

I got that game from Amazon when I got my PS2 back in early 2001, and I have YET to finish it, mostly because, while I enjoy the game, the battles take FOREVER to win and you can't save in between save for a one shot option.

I was going to sell it after I finally finish it, but if you say I should hold on to it, okay. I only paid about $35 for it.

That's a kooky question. It depends on whose perspective you take. Many retailers continue to price a once popular game high due to its popularity and usually not by true "rarity". What "I" think will be big down the road:

Any modern Castlevania game: These games are like gold and as long as the Konami magic continues to create new great games of this series, new gamers will be continuously interested in checking out these titles to see how it grew.

Kakuto Chojin: Pulled off the shelf due to religious chanting that might offend those of the Muslim faith. I don't know how available the game really is now, but this could lend to it getting a least a buck more down the road.

I know it's kind of cliche, but I'd say Ikaruga has a fair chance of becoming highly sought after years down the road.

I dunno otherwise, I just play...

I remember someone mentioning Cubivore for the cube. I would guess games that come out near the very end of a system's life, or, games that are sold at places like Wal-Mart for a low price. Sometimes we have games that I have never seen anywhere else for like 19.99. They come with their own side kick (set up) and everything.

Yes It is true that games like Rez and Cubivore are growing harder and harder to find as time goes on (damn i passed up a $30 used cubivore!) And I agree with spoon, games that are released towards the end of a systems life do usualy become rare years down the road. But its the rare gems that you have to look out for that not many people buy or know about, such as Ikaruga on gamecube and Klonoa 2 on playstation2.

I'd look for the first pressing of PS Spiderman 2. The final battle w/ Electro takes place at the WTC. After 9/11, a bridge was added between the towers. I also get offers for my Namco Museums 2,4&5. they are sooooooo NFS. :P PS Toy Story 2's original pressing has a very Un-PC "Frito Bandito" boss that was changed.

The Big N64 rares are the late-release PC ports: Starcraft, Worms Armageddon, ect.

I just ran an ebay search for completed Steel Battalion auctions. Of the U.S. Steel Battalion auctions concluded in the last two weeks, two sold for less than the list price ($200), one of which was a "buy it now".

Forty-one sold for more than the list price. Thirty-one sold for $250 or more, seventeen sold for $300 or more, and seven sold for $350 or more (most of which were sealed sets).

You can buy it at half.com for $375, or amazon.com for $475.

    And that's "its".

I read about it in the Gamefaqs.com walkthrough for SM2. That's all I know.

I am suprised at the high prices of the mega man x series these days though not really of the castlevania x prices, that game is a true classic in the series plus many say one of the best also it is really on the rare side for the turbo duo.
