    Default Good PSX racing games?

I picked up Gran Turismo 2. Seems REALLY difficult to master controls. I'll probably pick up the 1st one if I see it. What games are good?

I saw these DRIVER games (any good?), but the cop aspect knocked down interest quite a bit. Crash Team Racing looks okay and I'm sure it's fun, but if I bought it, I'd feel like I was just getting simply a Mario Kart clone. I'd just want to play the 'real deal'. TWISTED METAL looked retarded last time I saw one of those....DESTRUCTION DERBY the same?

ROAD RASH? TEST DRIVE? NEED FOR SPEED?

GT 2 is tons of fun, but yes, the control takes time to master. It's because the relatively high level of realism. Once you can do most of the first license tests, you should be okay.

As far as GT 1 goes, if you've got 2, you aren't really missing anything.

For other good games, get Wipeout XL, and possibly Street Racer. The latter is a Mario Kart style game with support for up to 8 players. It's quite good.

I'm going to toss some of my favorites at'cha:

Ridge Racer IV (better than GT games imo)
Circuit Breakers (fun directly related to how many you have playing)
    Moto Racer
    Crash Team Racing
Test Drive Offroad 2 (<--single-handedly got my uncle to buy a Playstation)

Wipeout, Wipeout XL, and Wip3out. Buy all three.

-Destruction Derby 2 is a great game. Well worht the money.
-Driver was fine but it was a mission based game that required your to drive rather than a racing game. This aspect of the game may or may not appeal to you if you are a die hard racing fan.
-Crash Team Racing was also fun.

Road Rash 3D is a definate!
Need for Speed III is the best PSone NFS!
    - though in NFS II you can drive a T-REX and a piece of lumber (cheat)
Driver 2 is a blast (except when you're out of the car)!

Go for the NFS whole series.

    Need For Speed
Need For Speed 2 (this one is the red headed step child of the series)
Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit
Need For Speed 4: High Stakes
    Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed
    Need For Speed: V-Rally

Licensed cars that's more arcade than sim and progressively gets better as the series matures.

While it's not technically a racing game, Twisted Metal 2 is one of the best games of all time. More atmosphere and carnage than just about any other game. But yea, 3 and 4 really suck.

As for psx racers, yep, The Need for Speed series is top notch.

    Gotta go with:

    Need for Speed III
    Need for Speed: High Stakes
    Ridge Racer Type 4
    Colin McRae Rally 2.0

Without a doubt, the best PSX racing games other than the Gran Turismo games.

Micro Machines V3 and Rush Hour aren't bad either, if you can find them.
RIP bargora, you will be greatly missed. That is how we do things on Giedion Prime.

The other Ridge Racer games (Ridge Racer, Ridge Racer Revolution, and Rage Racer) are cool as well, but if you have a PS2 get RRV.

Porche Challenge and Rally Cross (Not Rally Cross 2) are fun as well if you can find them cheap.

Moto Racer is a very nice motorcycle racer, highly recommended.

I recommend getting just Need For Speed 3 (vs the whole series) then trying something else.

There's all different kinds of racing, right? Here are my favorites across sub-genres:

    SIM Racing:
    Gran Turismo II

    ARCADE Racing:
Destruction Derby 2 (NFS: HS very close 2nd)

    COMBAT Racing:
WipEout 3 (or XL, it's very close)

    FUTURISTIC Racing:
    Rollcage II

    RALLY Racing:
    Colin McRae 2.0

    KART Racing:
    Crash Team Racing

I wouldn't consider games like Driver, Twisted Metal or Grand Theft Auto "racing" games. There are times when you're racing against the clock but you race against the clock in Shanghai too and that's not called a racing game

The first one you got to get is:

Rage Racer There maybe only 4 tracks but the car selection in that game is
fantastic, besides you'll love the tire adjustments you can make
from high drift to as tight as glue

Ridge Racer Revoultion My second all time favorite racer this one is more of a challenge it will test your driving skills

But stay away from R4 I don't disagree the tracks aren't beautiful. But car control is a royal pain
