Default What's a Geo conversion cart?

I picked up a World Heroes 2 AES "Conversion" cart off E-bay for a measly $10, but what exactly is it? It works fine, so I don't really mind as long a I have the game, but it's nice to know what I've got....

I just found out about this myself...

A "conversion" cart is one that is made out of a MVS cart. Basically, someone took a MVS cart, unsoldered the chips, hodge-podged it into a AES board into a AES case and bam, there you go.

AES collectors cringe at the mention as a good convertor could stand to make a lot of money by purchasing inexpensive MVS copies of rare AES games (Metal Slug 1 for example), converting them, and then selling them as the real item for loads of profit.

However WH2 to my knowledge isn't in high demand, and you paid very little for it. As long as it lasts, enjoy the game!

Ok, that makes sense, thanks.....but.....how did "Press Start" get to the top of the screen instead of "Insert Coin?" I would think an arcade game wouldn't say to press start?!?!?!

Anyone who does this should be beaten to death with Neo carts.

I can see being a homecart collector and wanting some of the games that weren't released on homecart. (There are some good ones) So, I don't see a problem with someone paying someone a fee to convert a cart for their collection. But when someone buys an MVS cart cheap and converts it into a homecart, when there is already an offical homecart version, for the sole reason of making profit, it kinda ticks me off. Someone at the Neo boards bought an Over Top MVS cart (US real low serial) from me for $80, then turned it into a homecart and sold it on ebay with a bin of $360. Only went up to $237 though, haha.

But trying to sell a conversion as real is highly illegal and fraudulant.

As for your WH2 cart, I doubt it's a conversion, I think the seller just had no idea what he or she was talking about.

Yeah, I find it hard to believe that a WH2 would be a conversion. I mean, WH2 original is one of the cheaper carts out there already, so what would be the point?

FYI, this is the beauty of Neo-Geo, you see, the carts, regardless of language versions or format (arcade or console), how the game will be displayed is determined by the system you own.

For example, my Japanese home system displays all of my games in Japanese, even if the game is English version, the same thing happens when I plus MVS carts with convertor, all games come with home setting, even those which never came out on for the console.
