    Default $0.01 starting bid

Have any of you guys won an auction for $0.01 and do you feel bad if you know it worth more than a penny?

And from you sellers, wouldn't it be better to start the bidding somewhere near the real value of the item?

I did. I won a bunch of Nintendo Power Mags for 5 cents.

I picked them up and gave the guy a buck but I felt funny about it.

It has been awhile, but there was someone who bought some games for 1 penny and the seller offered free shipping. I am sure the seller never started his auctions at 1 penny after that.

I've bought quite a few DVDs for that penny starting bid. I don't feel bad at all. The seller made his risk knowing it could happen.

I've never started my auctions at .01. The ones I start at .99 usually consist of things I was going to throw away. I just listed a Pantera shirt that hasn't fit me for about seven years on ebay for .99 cents. It's currently at $7+. You win some, you lose some. Last year I sold an old Tracker 250 tape backup (120 meg uncompressed, 250 meg compressed) for 99 cents. I grossly underestimated shipping, so the guy sent me $5 and it cost me $10 to mail it to him.

Do those .01 auctions have money built into the shipping? I accidentally bid on a Star Wars figure once for .01 and then saw that shipping was $12.

Well, the lower bidding price seems to draw more bids, which can smetimes lead to pointless bidding wars, and getting much more for the item. That's probably the motivation. Personally, I start everything below $10 just to get lower listing fees. I've never sold a big ticket itme either.

I've found that the quoted shipping charges are usually more than the game is worth in most cases.

I will only start items at $.01 if im trying to get rid of it and don't care about the item. I usually start an item around my cost. If anything happens I at least get my money back.

I always start everything at a buck, unless it's worth WAAAY more than that.

Everyone is willing to bid on something under $10, but hardly anyone blinks when it starts off at more than $10 (depending on the item, of course).
