The last "US" SMS release was Sonic the Hedgehog. (technically a European release officially imported to the US)
I believe the last game released in Brazil was either Virtua Fighter Animation, or Street Fighter 2 some time in 1997

I know Zoop SNES was released in either 1995 or 1996 as I bought it for the system when it came out. The 2000 date is either wrong, a different game, or a rerelease of the game.

Hmm, how about the Gameboy and the Gameboy Color? Surely there are no longer games being produced that will run on those.

Believe it or not, GB and GBC games have shown up. The color still has new games put out for it, and the old game boy has had new games up until at least last year.

Zoop doesn't sit right with me either, I remember renting the hell out of that game way back in the day.... MUCH longer than 3 years ago.

Zoop was definitely released in 1995. I played it back then.

The last snes/sfc game released was a special edition of Fire Emblem which was released in 2001, I believe. In the US, it could have been NHL 98, but I am unsure. Other possibilities include Space Invaders and Arkanoid.
<Evan_G> i keep my games in an inaccessable crate where i can't play them

Frogger came out after arkanoid and SI, if I recall.

Many Game Boy Color games will run on the original GB, but I don't think they've released a non-GBC game since Warioland 2.

Which brings up an interesting thought-what to classify those games as? Are they normal GB carts that just happened to be enhanced, like a Super Game Boy cart, or full blown GBC games?

Well, there are a number of different ways of making a cart that will run on both the old Game Boy and the GBC. One such way is to include two completely separate programs in the cart: one for the old, and one for the GBC. Blaster Master: Enemy Below was one of very few that used this method.

I think the most straightforward and clearcut way to distinguish between what makes a given title a Game Boy release or a Game Boy Color release is to look at the box and instructions for the game and see if they say Game Boy or Game Boy Color. It's possible that a few games were mis-packaged and would need to be clarified, but using what's on the box would work almost all of the time.

    Grey cart: Gameboy
    Clear cart: Gameboy Color
    Black cart: Both

    Bump

I think the last game released for the 5200 was either Gremlns or choplifter.

    Hey All,
The last game officially released for the Vectrex was Polar Rescue. Of course there has been many homebrews released in the 90's and early 2000's. Polar Rescue was released in only a couple of chain stores across the U.S. and it sold out rather rapidly as it was released right at the death of the Vectrex.

It was only available via mailorder from GCE for a little while after that. This is why Polar Rescue has been going for in excess US$200 on ebay lately. It's a good game, probably the best of the commercial releases in the 80's. Of course homebrews have really shown us what the Vec can do such as Protector (Herbert) and Gravitrex (Dondzila) lately.

    Regards,

    Nubian.

Since this thread has been bumped, I thought I'd bring this up since it hasn't been mentioned here.

The last SNES release was settled in another thread, and that was Frogger.

Here's one that hasn't been mentioned yet: FIFA 2005 was the last Playstation release in the US.
