Default What video game magazines do YOU subscribe to?

    I for one subscribe to:

    Nintendo Power
    Electronic Gaming Monthly
    Game Informer

Its quite a bit for me to handle at my age, but I just barely manage.

I read Gamepro at my local grocery stores while I'm waiting for my mother to find her groceries.

I used to get them all. And I mean ALL.

As of now, though, NONE. I just couldn't keep up with them so I'm re-evaluating things. I still get Tips & Tricks but technically that's not a subscription

    Default I get

I get none. I have contemplated subscribing to Tips N Tricks ( hmm...I wonder why?) but I'm afraid there won't be enough that interests me. I enjoy the room of doom and articles about the classic games, though there isn't many, theres a lot more then in other videogame magazines.

As for new game coverage...just not enough to interest me. Sometimes I'm interested in the GBA going-ons, when they relate to classic games, but that's about it.

Default I Get Five...Soon It Will Be Four...

    My magazine subscriptions...

Nintendo Power (will expire with the December issue)
    Electronic Gaming Monthly
    GameNow
    Game Informer
    PSM

Since I only have a Playstation, not a PS2, PSM is pretty much worthless these days.

I still get Gamepro (Gamespy promo) that the subscription supposedly ran out, but I still get it anyway. EGM is another. I get these through some funky subscription plan my wife foolishly signed up for until we're 80 or something like that.

None are worth my time anymore. I suspect I'd be interested in reading some Japanese mags like Arcadia, but I'd best learn Japanese first... :P

I used to subscribe to EGM and NextGen. I contend that they're the only videogame magazines worth the money (though not NextGen these days). EGM's reviews can't be beat. I usually sneak a peak at Playstation Magazine, Tips &Tricks (for the collector's corner) and Game Informer at the newsstand.

NextGen around '97-'98 was incredible. As of now, there is not a single videogame magazine that caters to adults. When the first "Premiere" for videogames comes out, it'll be massive.

    Here's what I want:
Reviews from 3-4 reviewers, like Famitsu and EGM.
    Far fewer previews
    Classic gaming articles
Gamestudies.org style articles, on gaming culture, international gaming, gaming history, gaming influences

I used to write for Gaming Age (the website) and a few others, and I did, for instance, articles on rendering techniques (I predicted that non-gourard style shading would be popular soon - this was before Fear Effect came out; nailed that one, huh?), the history of extreme sports games (interviewing the guy who created California Games and the guy who did Tony Hawk) and the future of "mature" games (this was when Conker's was supposed to be the big new thing - I talked to Warren Spector and a few others who, I'm sure, are dismayed by games like Dave Mirra XXX). If I, a college student with no journalism background, can gain this kind of access, a mainstream magazine should be able to.

It'd be hard to like Next-Gen now (unless they made a comeback from the dead?).

I only subscribe to Game Informer. I do buy the others occasionally (not as often as I used to), but I always felt disappointed by them, except maybe for EGM from time to time.

Only EGM, been with them since the first couple years they were out.

I had Nintendo power up until about halfway through the SNES's life.

Once every couple years I'll get a gamepro subscription, but I really don't like them.

I'm surprised Play is still being published...I never see it anywhere. I don't care much for it anyway. I also notice no one's mentioned Video Game Underground yet...

I'm on my 12th year of subscribing to GamePro...I don't know why, but I've always liked it.

I pick up PC Gamer when there is a demo I like

Anything else I get is just because I need something to read on a long car trip.

So far I have EGM and Official US Playstation Magazine. I like the former because of it's good, broad coverage of all the systems, and the latter for the demo CD.

I'd love to subscribe to an Xbox and/or Gamecube magazine with a demo disc. Suggestions?

I've tried "Official Xbox Magazine" but it came across like a propaganda piece (every article explained why the Xbox was better than Gamecube and/or PS2). Drove me freaking nuts. I also bought an XBM (British Magazine) which was good, but it didn't have a demo disc and it is obviously not focused on the market I'm a part of (Canada).

I'm not aware of any GC only mags, and the only other US Xbox mag I know (XBN) doesn't have demo discs.

As for me, er, I'm a collector, so I'm subscribe to just about everything. However, not Play (haven't found/made time to call to subscribe, and the web site has been "coming soon" for MONTHS), and Video Games Underground (which I couldn't find anywhere, but finally did online, and if they offer subs, well, I'm just masochistic enough to sign up).

Sadly, I'm way behind on my reading. I was actually keeping up for a while, other than another period in 1997 that I never recovered from. So, I've got like a box of "current" issues, and two boxes of "old"/back issues to go through. Hmm, should take two weeks off and do nothing be read game mags I guess...

I just get Game Informer because of the GameStop discount. BTW, In this month's issue's retro section, there is an article about CGE, with a few quotes from Joe. Also, on the last page is a plug for Video Game Bible....
