Default Genesis 3 controller port problem

I have a fully functioning Gen3 console, but the left controller port believes that the controller is constantly pulling to the left on the D-pad. I've tried the same controller on a fully functioning Gen3 with no issue, so I know it's the console.

    Any insight?

I've found the genny 3 seems to have weird issues with the 6 button controllers. make sure you are using 3 buttons only...

    I find this funny, since wasn't the Genesis 3 pack-in controller a 6-button one?

It was, however this one has issues with both 3 and 6 button controllers... any clue as to what might cause it?

Has it always been that way since you got it or did it just recently come up? I would speculate something is crossed or there is a stray blob of solder that is making contact (with something it shouldn't) since it was manufactured. Majesco wasn't exactly the bastion of quality control.

Try holding the D-pad to the right when you start up a game.

I'll check this, trying the "Holding the pad right" idea doesn't work, but this was an attempted trade in that was turned down so he just left it. I figured if I can fix, it could be a good trade since I know a couple people that want one.
