Bob, check your local independent record stores, I have one near me that specializes more in bluegrass/country type stuff and I usually get punk/ska/metal stuff $5/sealed there once they mark it down. Maybe you have one near you that may do something similar!
we have a couple of those around here where i have gotten some things. i got a NOFX cd for $2 once. but theres not much else for sale right now. i got some bargain bin .88 tapes today, but they were underground bands that havent released anything else. thats the best i can do right now around here. and because of the drought in my town, i am calling on you guys for a little help. but thanks alot of the tip!
"If I'm not back in ten minutes...Call the police!"
Another tip: CHECK PAWN SHOPS. We have a kickass pawn shop near me that gets every cd the college radio stations get rid of. I can't tell you how much awesome shit I've got for $2 apiece (Screeching Weasel, early AFI, De La Soul, Skarmageddon comp, etc.).
what specific bands are u looking for??
pawn shops would be my best suggestion and you should have some good ones in your area.....i always loved pawning in KY. Florida rocks too, and if anybody ever goes to vegas. simply avoid all the pawn shops. they're all a rip off and usually have nothing.

theres too many bands to name that i am looking for. but two cds that i want the most are dropkick murphy's "do or die" and red hot chilli pepper's "blood sugar sex magik". i;m looking for almost any punk rock and ska albums. and its really hard to find good cds in genres that i like in pawn shops down here. every other cd for sale is either a contemporary piece of shit or kenny g.

i've got tons of it, but it'll take a lot to get them off of me, i love m music. everything from dio(real metal before it got warped to what it is today) to woody guthrie if you want anything in particular lemme know, i might have it...at a price.

I got my Do or Die from the mega-corp Best Buy for around $10.
Hot Topic used to have them, I don't know if they do anymore but the "Give Em the Boot" cds are really good. It's all various punk and ska bands, and they are usually around $5.
achika, i looked for do or die at best buy before, but all they had was blackout and sing loud sing proud. and my friend has give 'em the boot and hes gonna let me borrow it and stuff.
"If I'm not back in ten minutes...Call the police!"
why not just go out and buy some stevie ray vaughn cd's (probably mispelled it every way possible)
while we are on the topic of music, have any of you heard of the bands, "the DFL tape show" or "destruction"? the dfl tape show is a hardcore punk band and destruction is an 80s metal band. i think they are both underground. i got a tape apiece at my mall's FYE bargain bin for .88 a piece. god, i love that bargain bin. its the only thing in the whole store with a decent price though!! FYE's prices are way hi.
"If I'm not back in ten minutes...Call the police!"
check out FYE in the Etown mall. i thought they were reasonable......actually good prices. i think it was FYE anyways......and the one local to me has good sales......now and then. like buy 1 of these ps2 games and get one of these free. i got GTA VC and GTA III for $50........so it's not always totally awful
Bob, Achika mentioned the Give 'Em the Boot samplers so here are some more, along with where you can obtain them:

any of those are good for discovering plenty of new music for cheap and most of those can be had under $5-7
BTW, I'd most highly recommend the Lookout! comps, as they're the most consistent quality-wise in my opinion. Also, I can get you the following cds for $5 plus shipping (these are all brand new) from a local record shop I checked today (by the way, $5 is their price, just tryin' to help a brotha out!):
B. Lee Band - self titled (feat. Mike Park of Skankin' Pickle on vocals, everything else by members of Less Than Jake, pretty good this one's in my personal collection)
New Bomb Turks - Pissing out the Poison (dunno much, on Epitaph)
Jughead's Revenge - forgot name of cd (decent hardcore stuffs)
Fenix TX - Lechuza (VERY GOOD pop punk, better than debut album)
that's all I can think of but there should be a few other things of that nature I probably forgot the name of.
ohhhh damn SRV baby, prolly the greatest guitarist to ever live, i mean when i hear him starting up texas flood, cold shock, or voodo chile; i just melt. he's so damn good it's rediculous. stevie ray vaughn, a texas legend and a guitar icon. he's up there with leo kotke, clapton, b.b. king, santana, and son house as some of the best guitarists ever.Originally Posted by nesuser2

drjustinramone, could you compare any of the bands you named to any other bands?
harmonicaman, i think jimi hendrix is the best guitarist tro ever live. i read an article in a magazine that in one of jimi's shows, he was playing so vigorously, smoke rose up from the amp. thats pretty crazy, in my opinion. and he wrote lyrics that (i think) were very deep. and i think i might be the only person in the world that knows what purple haze is about! but thats just my opinion. alot of people i know think peter frampton and eric clapton are the 2 best guitarists of all time.
