Own it, love it. There was a guide in the old Nintendo Players Guide, but these days you might want to check GameFaqs for a walkthrough.

Rygar. That game is a classic. The arcade is decent, but I prefer the adventure route the Nes one took. The Official Nintendo Player's Guide book had a good Rygar walkthrough that covered the entire game with a few maps. But that book might be a bit hard to get a hold of, so I guess you should check Gamefaqs.

I also recommend you take the time to level up in that game. A great place to gain experience is fighting those robot enemies in the Lapis area.

I have a Nintendo's Player Guide I'd like to sell. Good condition. If you want it, send me a PM.

Yep, I played it, it's a great game, worthwhile playing still today.

The old NES Players guide is an option, but there was also a very good walkthrough in a recent GameInformer, January 2003, vol. 117, p.147-149 (from my notes, I still have to copy the pages).

I was working on a pictorial walkthrough on my website a long time ago (including few cool things you are not going to read in any other FAQ/Walkthrough available!) I may need to finish it one day...

How does everybody think the Master System version compares to the NES? I've got a copy of the SMS version, by the way. Should put up my scan of the cover sometime :)

    What You Say?
There's a Mark III version of Rygar (actual port of the arcade game), but it was never released outside of Japan.

Ah...men Brother Sorry Racoon, I gave the system a chance, I can't do it. I've so far owned 30 SMS games, and am keeping the 5 that are remotely playable. Still looking for more, and yes i know about the imports, i may have to stray that way.

Ah, Rygar. Like Bionic Commando and Ninja Gaiden, it was actually improved by the fact that it was unable (or unwilling) to emulate its arcade counterpart. The Action/RPG elements are quite fun, the mix of side-scrolling levels and overhead scenes works great, and it's a real challenge at times. And though there aren't many secrets, that mirror-image castle in the final stage was quite cool for its day.

The arcade version's decent, but it just drags on and on and on, to the point where you're fighting your own boredom as much as the enemies. Even perfect ports of the game have this problem.

You bet your Diskarmor I own it. I once beat it without dying at all. If I can do that with a game, then I love it dearly.

Oh, and I used the NP guide. That book is some great stuff, and it also has some wackadoo Engrish! The most memorable instances is in the section of Pro Wrestling.

But back on the point, Rygar kicks ass. It's in what I refer to as the Tecmo Triad. Rygar, Tecmo Bowl, and Ninja Gaiden. Needless, to say, Tecmo forever.

I tried Rygar in Meka once. It seemed pretty sloppy the way Rygar attacked in that game. A lot of times you would hit an enemy but the hit wouldn't register. Made the game annoying to play.

I don't recall that version being all that good because the sprites were so big it was hard to move and avoid hits.

    Grr...you're quite right, you know.

I meant RASTAN. Jeesus. on a stick. Well, that's hopefully my LAST error for the day.

    (Good night?)

It's all good. I'm as much of a Rastan freak as I am a Rygar maniac.

I beat the NES Rygar back in college (1989 ish). My buddy and I pulled an all nighter to beat it. I remember seeing the sun come up and thinking "we really have to beat the game now that we came this far".
