Sweet dude, that's a great article and a kick-ass picture. I wish my family was as supportive...

You had the M2 hardware? Was it any good, or just a hump of metal you couldn't actually use? Sorry, just gotta know.

For instance, Nintendo becomes "Nitendo," Neo Geo becomes "Neo Goe," and Vectrex becomes "Vootrex."

A recent Google search pulled up 44,100 hits for "Nitendo," and the non-word showed up 13 times on eBay.

"That's a good trick," said O'Brien, who once found a $200 Memorex VIS for $15.
I really should use this more. Wish I knew it back when I was on eBay :P

I see you've got one of those Nintendo 64 cartridge storage bins, just like I do ($9.99 at my local Babbage's a few months ago)--but also storage bins for NES games! W00t! Should try and find some of those.

That is just really cool. Congrats on the exposure, and it was nice to see the article wasn't demeaning to the hobbyists in any way. Good luck at the University in the future!

I had done the review on the PS2 when I was in high school for the paper and kept in touch with the writer, Bill Hutchins. I didn't see him for a while, then one day, out of the blue, I saw him at my store (gamestop at the time) and he thought my situation would make a good story, sort of show how games aren't a negative thing that secludes people, but can bring people out of seclusion, a year later, we did the article...simple as that.

Nice article but the Astrocade wasn't the first programmable system: the Channel F was.

Well, it's not like he wrote the article. There are always inconsistancies in the newspaper.

    Just one question:

The collectors have adopted a point system that O'Brien devised as the way to rate collections - 10 points for the rarest machines, on down to one point for common items.
What's this all about? Who uses this besides you?

Sounds like the DP rarity categories. R1 thru R10. That is no doubt what they are referring to.

Things are always slightly screwed up in the newspaper. It's a good thing to always remember actually.

O'Brien, who lives in University Place, acquired some of the pieces in his collection while he worked for a Tacoma gaming shop.
Which Tacoma gaming shop is this?

    GREAT article, congrats Nolan.

It's nice to see videogame players and collectors presented in a positive way with all this violent game bla blah out there. BTW, great collection, I'm sure guys reading this article will be motivated now to collect, too.

Oh, damn, that means you'll have more collector competitors in your area hunting down games.

Hmm...shouldn't "console" mean only stand-alone machines? The Nintendo 64 DD is just an add-on unit for the base N64 unit.
