Do you suppose it's true or is it just propaganda to boost more sales?

Don't know if it is true but that would nice if it was.
i have no doubt they really have gained a better market share, but THAT number seems a bit high imho, 37%????? assuming the xbox has about 15% (it was about 20% a year ago afaik, and they must have lost market share), sony would have only 48% left, which would also mean that sony has only sold 25% more ps2 than nintendo gamecubes, which seems a bit unrealistic to me, but what do i know

I agree that 37% is a way too optimistic for worldwide sales.
But, there's no telling what that 37% applies to. It could be they hold a 37% market share in the northern third of Montana or something.
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
I can't see them grabbing THAT much of a share, but I can see em getting more...maybe 25%....

They mean week-by-week market share, not total market share. 37% sounds fine considering the price drops. If you're talking total market share, the PS2 has over 75% market share for home consoles in this generation, somewhat less if you count GBAs.
